Constituents who follow me on social media will have seen me actively endorsing Rishi Sunak to be our next Prime Minister and I thought it would be a good idea to put pen to paper and explain why.

Rishi understands rural areas like no other. He has a proven track record of supporting rural constituencies while he was an MP for Richmond in Yorkshire and knows how to ensure that pockets like Brecon and Radnorshire are not forgotten about on a national level. I’ve spoken to Rishi a number of times to discuss how to support rural Britain. He listens and most importantly gets it because his constituency is very much like mine. He understands the needs of rural areas, and as Prime Minister, he will make sure farming areas are not neglected by placing agriculture at the centre of our domestic policy.

Rishi doesn’t shy away from challenges and has historically tackled the toughest department during the toughest of times. He protected 11,000 jobs in Brecon and Radnorshire during the pandemic as a result of the furlough scheme.

We are facing huge challenges as a country. The war in Ukraine, rising inflation, and the rising cost of energy are the most serious issues of a generation. We need honesty, seriousness, and determination to overcome these challenges, not fairy tales. We need someone who understands the nuances of macroeconomics to steer the ship between these obstacles so that we land safely.

Rishi has what it takes to do all this and run the country with vision and determination. The former Chancellor’s reputation in Yorkshire and in the Treasury shows he is an effective leader. He is pro-farming, pro-economic growth, and pro-Britain.
