LAST Sunday the Welsh Junior Fours took place at the Radnorshire Indoor Stadium.
Of the three teams of four, one won their first and lost the second, another had similar results the other way around, however the other rink comprising brothers Daniel and James Powell, Angharad Edwards, and skip Paul Tantrum, although they lost heavily at the last stage, did exceedingly well to reach the final against some fierce opposition in the shape of the South Wales sides. Due to his age it will be Paul Tantrum’s final year as a Junior.
Last Sunday three Radnorshire Ladies Wendy Price, Paula Summerfield, and Ysie White played in the Development practice and coaching match for the international squad. Due to illness Betty Morgan was unable to attend.
This Saturday, Radnorshire Men’s Premier League squad play away at Port Talbot in a match rearranged from last November. This fixture and the return at home a fortnight later are both important in Radnorshire’s bid to build up enough points to comfortably avoid relegation, and climb up the league table.
At present they are in seventh position in the division with 75 points from 10 games, they are only three points behind sixth place Merthyr Tydfil with a game in hand . Port Talbot are bottom with only 38 points.
The Ladies Junior Internationals take place on Saturday in Paisley, Scotland. Radnorshire will be represented by Ysie White, who will skip her rink .When she travels north she will be accompanied by Betty Morgan who is the Manager of the Ladies Under 25’s squad.
Meanwhile on Sunday, the second and third rounds of the Men’s Open Pairs takes place at Newport, Cardiff and Islwyn. Radnorshire will be represented by the young duo of Chris Lewis and Luke Harwood. The Welsh Short mat competitions takes place all day on both Saturday and Sunday at Radnorshire Indoor Centre over four rinks.
