ROB Williams of Llanigon, near Hay on Wye is the new President of the Welsh Bowling Association.
Rob took up his 2016 year of office on December 3 last year, and since then he has chaired a number of meetings. The new President anticipates a very busy year ahead, and said: "It seems appropriate and an honour locally that the 2016 British Isles Bowls Championships will be held at the international standard Rock Park greens in Llandrindod Wells."
Rob who is looking forward to his year of office, is no stranger to being a President having been in that office for both his club Hay on Wye and the Mid Wales Bowling Association, so it seems a natural progression for him to take over the Welsh Presidentship.
Rob is an accomplished bowler, playing for Hay on Wye both in the Mid Wales and the Veterans Leagues, and for Llanigon in the Brecon and Radnor Short Mat League, at the Radnorshire Indoor Bowls Centre, and is a popular and respected member of the local bowls community.
Rob first started playing short mat bowls, and has been much involved in that form of the game at local, county and national level for many years.
He has for several years been manager of the Mid Wales Bowling Association team, against other Welsh bowling counties. Rob has represented Mid Wales on the Welsh Committee for the last ten years, and he was the national Vice Chairman last year.
In that capacity amongst other engagements, he attended the 2015 British Isles Championships held in Scotland. The new President takes over from the previous holder of the office, Ken Burton of Carmarthen, whilst Rob’s vice presidents are Senior John Haig of West Glamorgan and junior Alan Hodges of South Glamorgan.
