ARDAL LEAGUE NORTH EAST

Jamie Evans starred with a hat-trick as Builth Wells collected three massive Ardal League North East points with a stunning 5-1 Boxing Day win at Llandrindod Wells. Ryan Powell and Andrei Mihalcea were also on target to give Builth manager Jason Samuel the best possible Christmas present.

Llandrindod struck first through an Arwyn Walby header at the end of the first half but three goals in a six-minute spell after the break sent the game the way of the Bulls. Evans equalised, Ryan Powell put Builth ahead and Evans, who has been playing well in recent weeks but with little reward, extended the lead. Evans completed his hat-trick on 75 minutes before Mihalcea provided the icing on the Christmas cake with his first goal for the club two minutes from time. There were a lot of good individual performances from the Bulls with young starlet Harry Edwards - who provided three assists on the day - particularly impressive in midfield.

Llandrindod remain in 11th place in the league table while the win for Builth moves them seven points clear of the relegation places and in sight of a number of the teams immediately above them.

MMP CENTRAL WALES LEAGUES

Rhayader Town pulled off an important 3-2 victory at local rivals, Llanidloes Town to maintain their hopes of promotion in the MMP Central Wales League (South). The Red Kites made the perfect start with Stevie Walsh firing them ahead from distance after just two minutes in front of a bumper Boxing Day crowd. Llanidloes hit back and were leading at half-time through Alex Jones and player-manager, Dafydd Carruthers. Rhys Thomas levelled the scores with a cracking free-kick before Ollie Leadbetter grabbed the winner after being played through by Bradley Goodwin.

The big West Wales derby resulted in a 2-1 win for Lampeter Town at Ffostrasol, who suffered their first league defeat. Dion Deacon-Jones gave Lampeter the lead, Dafydd Phillips levelled, but Hari Jones got the winner as Lampeter extend their lead at the top.

WATSON FINANCIAL MID WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)

Knighton Town continue to hold the local bragging right following a 2-1 victory over arch rivals, Presteigne St Andrews. A goal in each half was enough to see Knighton extend their recent unbeaten league run to seven with Connor Bird on target in the first half before Jack Brindley sealed the win from a Henry Shaw corner although Ruben Lloyd did snatch a consolation for Presteigne right on the final whistle.

The weekend’s other game saw St Harmon return to winning ways with a 1-0 verdict at Builth Wells Reserves where Troy Watson bagged the all-important goal midway through the first half. Builth were possibly the better side overall but were unable to get back on level terms.

CYMRU LEAGUE NORTH

Caersws made it back to back wins in the JD Cymru North with a 2-0 success at Mold Alexandra. Dillon Brown handed The Bluebirds an interval lead before an own goal from Morgan Roberts secured the points for Caersws whose Thomas Edwards, the former Radnor Valley man, was outstanding in midfield.

Penrhyncoch moved off the foot of the table with a fantastic 1-0 victory at Guilsfield where Daniel Owen netted in the first half for the Roosters who have now picked up seven points from a possible nine.

Newtown suffered a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of promotion rivals, Airbus UK whose Oliver Lanceley completed a hat-trick while Newtown’s misery was completed with the sending off of Jolyon Harries.
