ARDAL LEAGUE SOUTH EAST

Brecon Corries extended their unbeaten run to six in the Ardal League South East with a 4-1 home win over Lliswerry in difficult conditions. Despite being without Jack Biggs, Liam McAnally and Luke Roughley, manager, Damien Daniels was delighted by an excellent Corries performance. Lliswerry hit he bar before Jay Ryan Hughes, who has proved a great signing, gave Corries a first half lead with his sixth goal from the last seven games after latching on to a Kai Saurin through ball. The roles were reversed on the hour with Hughes freeing Saurin who curled one into the top corner from 20 yards and Craig Evans, returning from his three-match suspension, virtually put the game to bed with a well worked third goal. Ben Freeman grabbed a consolation for Lliswerry on the 90-minute mark but Corries, for whom midfielder, Finlay Daniels was named man-of-the-match, were not finished. Jamie Williams had a chance but they did have the last word with another young substitute, Ossian Wiltshire completing their tally in stoppage time.

Corries, who are fifth in the league table, will be hoping to keep their run going on Saturday when they welcome Canton to The Hub Scaffolding Rich Field.

ARDAL LEAGUE NORTH EAST

Knighton Town closed the gap on Llanuwchllyn at the top of the Ardal North East League with a high scoring 4-3 victory at Mid Wales rivals, Llanfair United. With the leaders out of action due to a waterlogged pitch, the Radnor Robins cashed in with goals from Ryan Jones, Luke Boundford, Callum Stead and Taylor Wozencraft.

It was Josh Astley who opened the scoring for Llanfair with the first of four goals in a frantic 12 minute spell. Midfielder, Ryan Jones equalised with his first of the season from 20 yards and topscorer Boundford put Knighton ahead only to see Nyasha Mwamula level for Llanfair.

Stead regained Knighton’s lead when Kieran Dovey put him through before half-time and Wozencraft put them further ahead on the hour mark with Dovey again providing the telling pass. Llanfair refused to lie down and reduced the deficit through Tomos Jones with four minutes remaining but Knighton saw it out.

Builth Wells and Radnor Valley were frustrated by the weather while Llandrindod Wells slipped to a disappointing 3-1 defeat at Rhos Aelwyd.

The Radnorshire men took the lead through Ruben Edwards from a Jack Evans corner but Ryan Jenkins had the hosts back on terms by half-time. There was everything to play for in the second half and Llandrindod looked dangerous on the break with Bob Kear going narrowly wide following a super run. But the home side’s substitutes made the difference with Evan Davies putting Rhosin front with a deflected free-kick and Osian Phillips netting two minutes later to leave Llandrindod empty handed.

Llanrhaeadr’s five-match winning run was halted as they went down 2-1 at home against another in-form side in Bow Street. Billy Clarke put Llanrhaeadr ahead but Rhys Hughes levelled and Courtney Perkins grabbed a second half winner for Street who have now won seven of their last eight suggesting they are serious contenders for a top two finish.

Penycae are level on points with Knighton after winning 3-2 at Cefn Albion where Ben Buley netted the winner with a free-kick and at the bottom of the table, Llangollen Town won for the first time this season in the league. They defeated fellow strugglers, Lex X1 4-1 thanks to goals from Kieron Hughes, Ben Realey, Louie Middlehurst and Iwan Hardy.

ASPIDISTRA RADNORSHIRE CUP

Knighton Town completed the line-up for the semi-finals of the Aspidistra Radnorshire Cup following a narrow 1-0 victory over holders, Radnor Valley. The Radnor Robins join Builth Wells, Llandrindod Wells and Rhayader Town in the last four with a solitary strike from the mercurial Kieran Dovey proving the difference.

It was billed the tie of the round and did not disappoint with Radnor more than playing their part in what was a cracking local derby settled by one moment of magic from Dovey on 65 minutes.

Meanwhile Llanidloes Town booked their spot in the Central Wales Cup semi-finals by beating Four Crosses on penalties after it finished 2-2 after ninety minutes. Lewis Birch had struck first for Crosses but Will Denham then netted in either half for The Daffs. Ben Simms forced the shoot-out where Llanidloes held their nerve winning 5-4 with goalkeeper, Eogan Jones saving Crosses fourth kick from Ian Dawson.

Berriew, Ffostrasol and Felinfach are through to the quarter-finals of the Emrys Morgan Cup. Berriew beat Machynlleth3-1 with goals from three of their summer signings, Ed Baker, Richard Davies and Aron James while Ffostrasol went through 1-0 at Welshpool Town. Keane Moore bagged the all important goal in the first half although Ricky Litchfield missed a stoppage time penalty for Welshpool.

Costcutter Ceredigion League first division leaders, Felinfach beat Tregaron 3-2 with goals from Ben Davies (2) and Steffan Williams.

WATSON FINANCIAL MID WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)

Knighton Town continued their good form in the Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South) with a 5-0 home win against nine man Llandrindod Wells Reserves. The Robins are now unbeaten in five in league and Cup and move into the top six for the first time.

Llandrindod had captain Bradley Andrews sent off after just eight minutes and Louis Scott put Knighton ahead. The Spa side’s problems were mounting when Richie Powell also red just before half-time and with a two man advantage, Knighton netted four second half goals through Cain Martin (2), Connor Bird, who is continuing his recovery from injury, and Josh Pearce.

Penybont United moved up a couple of places following a narrow 3-2 verdict at Hay Development who are still searching for their first win. Topscorer, Connor Walby gave The Polecats the lead after being played in by Alwalid Bsais and Hay’s Joe Metcalfe then scored an own goal when Walby drove the ball across the box. Dan Jones pulled a goal back right on half-time to give The Saints a foot hold in the game. Penybont however regained their two goal advantage through defender, Fin Mason who headed in from a Logan Evans corner but Rueben Metcalfe immediately scored a second for Hay who were unable to come up with an equaliser.

Former Mid Wales League (South) side, Newcastle extended their unbeaten run to eight in the Montgomery Amateur League with Craig Morris and Morgan Oakley netting in a 2-0 win against Llanrhaeadr Reserves. The Shropshire outfit had to play the last half hour with ten men after Morris picked up two yellow cards in quick succession.

MMP CENTRAL WALES LEAGUES

Penrhyncoch Reserves missed the chance to go top of the MMP Central Wales League (South) as they were beaten 2-1 at Kerry Reserves. An own goal had put The Roosters ahead but they saw Cai Williams pick up two yellow cards in first half stoppage time and two goals from Kacper Napierala won it for Kerry.

In the only other league game played, Bow Street Reserves won 5-2 at Aberystwyth Town Development with Steff Davies and Osian Burrell each netting twice. Kurtis Dallas was their other marksman after Landon Walton and Josh O’Leary had twice put Aber in front.

Llansantffraid Village moved up to third in the MMP Central Wales League (North) with goals from Oscar Herd and Alex Itchasso Mane securing a 2-0 win over previously unbeaten Waterloo Rovers.

It was a disappointing week for Rovers who dropped further points in a 3-3 draw at Llanfyllin Town on Saturday with Adam Gough equalising in stoppage time.

Barmouth and Forden United also played out a 3-3 thriller on Friday night wit Ryan Williams scoring twice for Barmouth including another 93rd minute equaliser. Osian Ephraim netted the other Barmouth goal with Ben Davies, Steve Roberts and Jake O’Donnell on target for Forden.

JD CYMRU LEAGUES

Penrhyncoch won for the first time this season in the JD Cymru (North) and did it in style with a fantastic and certainly unexpected 6-0 victory over Buckley Town. Some have already written Penrhyn off but manager, Gari Lewis still believes they can avoid relegation and on this showing anything is possible. Daniel Owen scored twice on Saturday with Rhydian Davies, Ifan Burrell, John James and Dion Phillips also on target.

Newtown suffered a damaging 2-1 defeat at Mid Wales rivals, Guilsfield when manager, Nathan Leonard returned to his former club. Callum Bromley gave Guilsfield an interval lead but Jamie Hyne levelled. Adam Hailes grabbed a second half winner and Guilsfield played the last twenty minutes with ten men after striker, Sam Flory received his marching orders.

Newtown did not however lose too much ground on the top three with Holywell Town and Llandudno drawing 1-1 while Airbus UK also dropped points at Mold Alexandra where George Peers snatched a late equaliser in another 1-1 affair.

Aberystwyth Town went down to a cruel 2-1 defeat at home against leaders, Cambrian United in the JD Cymru (South) with the visitors snatching their winner fourteen minutes into stoppage time. Rackeem Reid had earlier given The Seasiders the lead.
