A new season is set to begin at for bowlers at Talgarth - and the club is set for a change of scenery as they move location.
The new season begins on Wednesday, September 14 at Glasbury Village Hall, starting at 7pm.
Coincident with the new venue, the club’s name has been changed from Talgarth Short Mat Bowling Club to Talgarth & District Short Mat Bowls Club.
New members are always welcome and no previous bowls experience is necessary as coaching is available.
Being youthful or more senior is no barrier plus the hall is warm and the club friendly.
If you are interested in joining, please first contact Jill, the club secretary, to check we’re playing at home that evening (07909 935522 or e-mail to [email protected])
As members of the Brecon & Radnorshire Short Mat Bowls Association and affiliated to the Welsh Short Mat Bowls Association, the club competes against other clubs in the area. Some members prefer not to play in matches, just participate in some light exercise and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee in a friendly and welcoming environment. No pressure!
The club’s new chair, Paul Evans, said: “It will be great to welcome fresh and existing members to our new venue in Glasbury, having not played serious bowls indoors for many months due to Covid.
“I’d like to thank the Church in Wales and the management of Talgarth Church Hall, our previous location, for many years of providing facilities for our club.”
At Glasbury the club will be able to play up to three games at the same time and there is plenty of parking space.
Short mat (indoor) bowls provides a great way of keeping fit during the winter months, even helping those less able to enjoy some gentle exercise in a welcoming environment .
Usually the indoor bowling season is between mid-September and mid-April.
The club takes precautions to protect members from Covid.
