BRECON ladies had their last fixture before the New Year against Swansea thirds and were determined to finish this year with a win to secure their current second place in Division one.

However Swansea started strongly and opened the scoring from a short corner. Brecon bounced back, with Delyth Thomas scoring the opener for the home side. Brecon retained possession and were clinical in the D, producing outcomes either with a shot on target or forcing an error from the Swansea defence resulting in a short corner.

Delyth Thomas found the backboard on two occasions from short corners in the first half to complete her hat trick. Brecon converted another short corner though Nelly Daniels following a well executed play from Beth Wood and Thomas who found Nelly Daniels on the post from the set piece.

Rhiannon Burton again increased Brecon’s lead to make it 5-1. Delyth Thomas added two more goals to her tally, the final score was 7-1 a well deserved win for the home side following a strong team performance.

Brecon’s under 18’s girls also known as the Badgers, traveled to Llandrindod to play Kington.

Within five minutes Brecon had taken the lead through Rosie Lowels, who was well positioned on the left post. Despite Brecon having the majority of the position Kington created opportunities on the counter attack forcing debut goalkeeper Paige Jones to make some fantastic saves to deny Kington.

Brecon’s second goal was created by a break by Megan Thomas, who made a rare appearance as an outfield player as she usually plays goalkeeper, down the left, and delivered a brilliant cross to find Beth Wood on penalty spot who slotted the ball in the corner.

The second goal again was finished by Beth Wood. Beth completed her hat trick later in the second half. This final goal was a brilliant team effort, with cover tackle by Amy Martin to deny Kington another break downfield, Amy then linked with Nia Starkey and Sophie Pritchard to find Beth who proved lethal in the D.

A fantastic team performance, with forward Alys Wainwright and Georgia Jones always looking dangerous in addition to a fantastic defensive performance by Amy Martin, and sisters Ellen and Beth Davies. The final score was 4-0 and man of the match was awarded to Megan Thomas.

Brecon men were also in action this weekend playing Cardiff Medics.

It was an exciting game to watch with both team committing men forward with goalkeepers at both ends kept busy. But it was Brecon’s Freddy Davies that put Brecon in the lead.

Despite Brecon’s best efforts, Cardiff were very clinical and caught Brecon on the counter attack on several occasions, giving them a lead of 5-1.

But Brecon showed great character to bounce back with Tom converting an opportunity set up by Harry Jones from a run alone the baseline beating Cardiff defenders to find Tom on back post.

Brecon made it 5-3 from a set piece with a drag flick from Ben Cuthbertson-Smith, the game finished 6-3.
