Brecon Phoenix Boxing Club fighters have been busy representing the town across several venues in recent weeks - with some strong performances and promising early-career results.
Rising talent Luca Morris claimed his first competitive win during a bout at Loughor Working Men’s Club on Friday, November 21. Luca faced a taller and awkward opponent, with the contest finely balanced going into the final round. Spurred on by firm encouragement from his corner, he dug deep in the third, using his fitness and determination to secure a well-deserved judges’ decision.
The following night, James Berrow stepped into the ring in Hereford for what proved to be an extremely challenging contest against a highly experienced and physically strong opponent. Despite the pressure, Berrow showed “ great strength and character” throughout six tough minutes of boxing. Although the decision did not go his way, his performance earned praise from both corners and from the packed crowd.
In-form junior boxer Aayush Magar added another impressive win to his record after accepting a bout with just 24 hours’ notice on Friday, November 28 - again at Loughor Working Men’s Club. Facing a Penrheol ABC opponent with double his experience, Aayush showcased sharp attacking and defensive skills, ultimately proving too strong. The referee stopped the contest in the third round. Aayush has now boxed six times this year, winning five, a feat his coaches say reflects his “incredible hard work and dedication.”
Brecon Phoenix has three more boxers preparing to make their competitive debuts in the coming fortnight, with bouts scheduled in Hereford, Pontyclun and Pontypool.
The club, which continued to go from strength to strength, also has spaces available in its weekday evening boxing-fitness classes. Anyone interested can follow Brecon Phoenix ABC on their Facebook page for updates or can contact Dave Gilbert on 07969 301246.
