A BUILTH Wells based event has received an award as the best round of Wales’s premier rally championship.
The Nicky Grist Stages, which took place last July, claimed the accolade in the eight round Pirelli MSA Welsh Forest Rally Championship.
Responding to news of the award, event clerk of the course Neil Cross commented: "Quinton Motor Club who promote Nicky Grist Stages are delighted to be recognised as the best event in the 2015 Pirelli Welsh National Rally Championship. We strive to put on an event people want to do and enjoy and this award recognises this."
Meanwhile championship coordinator Dave Evison explained the award saying: "Such has been the quality of all the rounds this year that we struggled to pick a winner. 2015 saw the introduction of new MSA Safety guidelines that place more emphasis on marshals’ manpower on stages amongst many other requirements.
"The MSA is the governing body for motorsport in the UK. All the rounds affected by this rule change handled it well but The Nicky Grist Stages was the first event required to meet the new guidelines and at relatively short notice."
The event will also be a round of the 2016 championship taking place on July 9.
