THERE was a bumper entry for Rhayader’s first evening event of the year with over 100 entries turning up on the night at the club's Cwmythig Hill course, with the course in perfect conditions helped by recent rain showers dust was at a minimum.
In a large experts class featuring many of the top Welsh enduro riders plus moto crossers Shane Carless and Ashley Greedy, it was set for a frantic competition and Jay Thomas set the early pace ahead of Carless and Greedy. However by the hour mark Carless had passed Thomas who in turn was under pressure from Greedy, who soon moved into the runners up berth and by the flag was just six seconds behind the victorious Carless. Fourth place went to Harry Edmondson making adult debut ahead of his uncle Lee and local rider Adam James.
Youngster Sam Davies aboard his JTM85 proved top man in the clubman class with 11 seconds in hand over Tom James while Grant Churchward was just nine seconds ahead of Jason Rees in the Over 40’s class and in the Over 50’s class it was even closer with the Mayor of Rhayader Christian Walton just seven seconds ahead of Colin Griffiths at the flag. Jac George was a clear winner in the sportsman class managing an extra lap from the chasing pack.
Reigning British Champion David Williams with passenger Luke Peters had a comfortable win in the experts sidecar class ahead of Aled Evans and Nick Morgan while Pugh and Anthony Mills ran out clubman winner just eight seconds ahead of Craig Davies.
The club are now busy preparing for their next event which is an Extreme Hare 'n' Hounds that will take place on Wednesday evening, June 14.
