LAST Wednesday’s U16 South Powys Girls Hockey tournament saw Christ College defend their title successfully for a fourth year in a row, although it was not always an easy task.
Their opening game against Llandrindod HS was incredible, with a mixture of stern defence on the part of the host’s and wasteful attack on the part of CCB combining to produce a 0-0 draw right up until the dying seconds, when the match was decided on the whistle by a Ransome goal for Christ College.
The second match against Crickhowell also provided a stern test, although one that was ultimately decided 2-0 through goals from Davies and Garrett in favour of the defending champions.
By this point, however, Christ College were finally hitting their stride, dispatching Builth HS 7-0, with some excellent attacking play and goals from hat-trick hero Jeffes, Mapps with a brace, Cronin and Edwards.
This set up a title decider between Christ College and Brecon HS, featuring all-star Wales U18 player Beth Wood. There was little that Brecon could do to stop CCB, however, with the champions successfully defending their title once again, in a 3-0 victory thanks to two goals from top scorer Jeffes and another for Garratt.
Christ College will now go on to contest the Powys Regional title later in the year, hopeful of making the 2017 National Finals once more.
