Rhayader’s Tom Marshall has missed out on qualifying for the 1500 metre final at his first major championships.
The former Brecon Athletics Club athlete finished eighth in his first qualifying heat at the Carrara Stadium at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in a time of 3.50.95.
His elimination was confirmed following the second qualifying round when Jordan Williams, of Australia, joined the three athletes who placed immediately above Marshall in his heat to qualify as the four fastest finishers.
Only the first four from each heat, which were run in the early hours of this morning, qualified automatically for the final which takes place at 7.10am on Saturday morning.
Marshall, who now runs for Cardiff AAC, had set an indoor personal best for the 1500m earlier this season and a Welsh record for the 1000m indoors.
