AN eight-year-old kickboxer has won gold at the World Championships in Germany.
Ellie Cain, who is a pupil at Ysgol Y Bannau, Brecon, represented Team Wales at the event in Stuttgart last month and came first in the 30kg under 12s category. She also came home with bronze in the mat continuous and and ring continuous categories.
Ellie, who trains with the Devils Kickboxing club in Blackwood has been kickboxing for just three years. She previously trained in Brecon but after the club closed due to the instructors ill health she moved to the Blackwood club.
Ellie said: "I was nervous and excited until I stood in the ring and on the mats. It was an amazing experience receiving my medal on the podium."
Ellie’s mum Kate added: "I couldn’t have felt any prouder seeing Ellie stood on the podium. We’d like to thank Brecon Lions Club for their donation to help Ellie got to Germany and also thanks go to the staff and young people of Brecon Youth club for raising money for Ellie."
Ellie will next compete at a tournament in Pontypool on November 22.
