THE Jones Agri Ltd Powys Lanes Rally organised by Epynt Moto DGr Club takes place this weekend.

The road rally, based at the Royal Welsh Showground, will see cars arrive at the International Pavilion from 5pm on Saturday, November 5.

The cars will leave the showground at 11.30pm and travel to start the rally outside the town with crews navigating their way through the darkness and over 110 miles before returning to the showground for the finish and awards presentation at approximately 4.30am on Sunday, November 6.

The rally is a qualifying around of the Welsh Road Rally championship, the Association of West Midlands Motor Clubs Road Rally Championship and the Welsh Border Car Club Road Rally Championship and has attracted a full entry of 80 cars plus reserves.

This is the sixth running of the DG Jones Agri Ltd Powys Lanes Rally and each time the event has been won by a Ford Escort MKII. So this year, the organisers are offering a free entry on next year’s event for the first non-Ford Escort to win the rally.

Local competitors include a number of Epynt and Brecon Motor Club members.

Epynt Motor Club members taking part are Brian Jones from Llanwrtyd Wells with Michael Hardwick from Trecastle in a Ford Escort MKII, competing in the expert class.

Also competing in the expert class are Clive Jones from Llandrindod, co-driven by Epynt Motor Club member Raymond Davies from Builth, in a Subaru Impreza.

In the semi-expert class will be Ben Davies from Llandovery and Ellie Williams from Rhandirmwyn, who will be out in a Peugeot 306. One of the club’s youngest members, 16-year- old Kieran Price from Caio, will be co-driving in the novice class.

Brecon Motor Club members include Will Arrowsmith from Libanus in his newly built Ford Escort MKII, who will be competing in the master class, and Michael Jones and Robin Roses will compete in the semi-expert class in a Subaru Impreza.

Over the last five years the Powys Lanes Rally has donated a total of £5750 to a number of causes including local schools, Builth Wells Community Transport, Tenovus, Hereford Hospital Renton Unit and Llanwrtyd Co-Responder fund. This year they are raising money for Wales Air Ambulance and the Bracken Trust.

a spokesperson for Epynt Motor Club said: "We would like to thank everyone for their co-operation in the running of this event and would value assistance in ensuring that all livestock, pets and vehicles are kept safely off the road on the night of the rally. All houses that the rally is passing should have received a letter about the event. "
