THE Builth Wells Showground Stages is renowned for providing a tight battle and the Hansford Plant Hire supported rally was no exception this year.

Sam Davies/Martin Lasper won the Herefordshire Motor Club event for the second consecutive year but the final result was decided by a tie-break after the 36 mile event saw an exact equal time between the two duelling Nova crews, leaving rivals Ian Evans/Justin Brooks in second position due to them being 1 second slower on the opening stage of the day.

As consolation, Evans/Brooks took a class win.

Kevin Davies/Annie Green couldn’t quite match the front pace in their Escort but took a commanding class victory and 3rd overall.

Wayne Lloyd from Hay-on-Wye would finished ninth overall in his Escort, co-driven by Bryan Barrell. Local compatriot Gethin & Tom Williams would finish 23rd overall, third in class in their Escort.

Father and daughter team Conrad & Sophie Law ran their Escort Mk1 taking class victory and eighth overall.

Rounding off the top 10 was Gary & Linda Thomas, also collecting third in Class in their Escort.

At just 17 years old Tom Llewellin is aiming for a successful career as his father Dai Llewellin and set an impressive pace in the Escort MkII.

Despite damage to co-drivers’ Dale Bowen door after colliding with a rock, the pair were 14th overall, second in class.

Brecon’s Jeff Jones/Graham Issac got their Peugeot 306 into 15th spot.

Meanwhile Ricky Crone co-driven by Mollie Swan in their BMW Compact netted 17th overall.
