RUNNERS arriving for the 4th annual Builth Fest 5km were greeted with excellent conditions and it was evident from the start that there would be some excellent racing.

Stephen Corbishley (Rossendale), Tim Iveson (Builth) and Robin Woods (Builth), shared the early lead and quickly opened a large gap on the remainder of the field.

When the runners came in sight of the finish, Stephen started a sustained surge and was too strong for Tim who finished second. Robin (who won first local in Man v Horse a few days before) finished in a very creditable third. The Ladies race was very much a battle between the home team runners with Emma Matthews taking an early lead over Gunvor Troelsen and was able to maintain a strong pace until the finish. At one point, it looked as though Gunvor could be caught by Noemi Gal but at the end there was a 22 second gap.

In the over fifty category, the Kendrick’s kept it in the family with Phil and Suzanne taking the prizes.

At the end the Race Director, Alan Ryland, said ‘I am really pleased with the record turn out and especially pleased to see so many young runners taking part’.

The race raised £350 for Builth Carnival funds.
