A BRECONSHIRE Futsal player has made history by becoming Great Britain’s first professional futsal goalkeeper.

Alongside playing football for Wales and Yeovil Town FC, 21-year-old Alice Evans, was playing for Bristol City Ladies Futsal Club as a goalkeeper when Italian Serie A Elite League club Sinnai heard about her and invited her for a trial at the club.

Alice, who was born in Aberystwyth and went to school in Builth Wells now lives in Brecon with her family but will shortly be moving to Italy to follow her dreams.

Alice said: "My coach Luciana was contacted by the Italian club and a few days later they flew me out for the trial. It went well and they offered me a contract.

"Italy is going to be a big learning curve for me and will definitely push me out of my comfort zone. The league itself will be very challenging, as will the language barrier, but I am excited to improve and really push myself. I’m going to give this opportunity my everything.

"When I was in college I used to dream of playing Futsal abroad, I remember watching games from leagues in Spain on YouTube and thinking to myself that’s what I want to do, but no way did I ever think it would actually happen."

Alice’s dad Neil Evans said how proud of their daughter him and wife Catrin are: "It was one of the nicest surprises. Alice was playing football for Yeovil and Wales and Futsal for Bristol city while studying at Bath University and ow she is moving to another country and becoming an Italian resident to follow her dreams.

"Alice’s brother Jack is an avid Aston Villa fan and plays football twice or three times a week and her sister Emily has followed her through her playing career and says Alice is her biggest inspiration. We are all extremely proud of her achievements."
