LOOKING to bounce back quickly from the 7-1 loss away to Cardiff Draconians, the Corries welcomed Grange Albion to the Rich Field.
Despite the poor weather over the past fortnight the pitch was in remarkably good condition, a testament to Bob and Malcolm’s hard work and dedication.
From the outset it was the visitors who started the brightest and took control of the game, immediately testing the Corries’ defence and goalkeeper.
Unable to effectively move the ball out of defence, the Corries were forced onto the back foot for the first quarter of the game and once again relied on goalkeeper, Stephen Price, to keep the scores level.
At times the Corries were able to move the ball forward through Paul Keddle and Gareth Aplin, their best chance falling to Dale Evans who’s half-volley went narrowly wide.
However, it was Grange that broke the deadlock with a fortuitous goal right on the stroke of half-time. Things got worse for Corries within minutes of the second half starting when they went 2-0 down after a through-ball was neatly tucked away.
The Corries’ management team quickly made changes in midfield bringing on Damien Daniels for Gav Perry and Craig Jones on for Rhys Thomas.
What Daniels lacks in skill and finesse is made up for in aggression and physicality, and his presence soon had the Grange defence at sixes and sevens.
A Corries goal soon followed when a schoolboy error from the Grange keeper was pounced upon by Aplin who calmly put the ball into the back of an empty net. With time running out Daniels had a glorious chance to equalise but his effort from six yards out went sailing over the bar along with any points for the Corries.
And so it finished 2-1 to the visitors.
Despite the loss the Corries remain fourth in the table.
The Corries are now on Cup duty when they welcome Trebannog FC to the Rich Field in the W John Owen Cup on Saturday, November 4 at 1.30pm.
