BUILTH Wells made it five wins from five in the Spar Mid Wales League second division with a superb 3-2 victory at leaders, Kerry.

Builth are now just four points off top but both Berriew and Aberystwyth University, who are third and fourth, have games in hand on Shane Claridge’s side.

Gethin Jarman, back from a two match ban, gave Builth the lead on Saturday and Jamie McIlroy added a second from an inch perfect Bradley Rollinson through ball.

Kerry got one back following a set piece in the second half but a good finish from Tom Brown restored Builth’s two goal advantage. Kerry got another back which Builth will be disappointed at conceding and that gave the home side belief but Builth, despite being under pressure in the latter stages, held out for a tremendous win.

Presteigne suffered a 4-2 defeat at Bettws with new manager, Mark Weiland saying ’We need to take a long hard look at ourselves’ following a disappointing afternoon. Bettws striker, Barry Bellis was the difference between the sides, he scored all four goals in the first half.

Justin Davies pulled it back to 2-1 at one stage and scored the only second half goal direct from a corner and Presteigne had other chances but it was not to be.

Newbridge turned in a decent showing at Aberystwyth University before falling to a 2-1 defeat. Kejan Foryszwski netted for Newbridge and Matty Hunton and Niall Jones for The University.

The students maintained their climb up the table on Sunday with Rian Devlin scoring four times in an 8-1 thrashing of Four Crosses. Liam Powell (2), Tom Spicer and Carwyn Eckley were also on target in what was a productive week-end for The University.

Radnor Valley caused an upset in the Spar Mid Wales League Cup with a 3-2 extra-time victory over first division Bow Street.

Radnor rode their luck early on with the visitors missing several early chances but it was Steve Pigott’s Radnor who forged a two goal interval lead through Callum Matthews and Joe Price.

Bow Street hit back in the second half scoring twice to force extra-time when former Rhosgoch striker, Price won it for Radnor with his second of the tie.
