HAY St Marys Reserves are through to the third round of the prestigious Emrys Morgan Cup following a 5-1 victory at Llanrhaeadr Reserves.

The Saints made one of the longest journeys of the day but it proved worthwhile and after an evening opening period, Hay dominated. Rob McNamara opened the scoring and Kevin Jones added a second with a free-kick.

Matt Turrell and a second from McNamara put Hay out of sight in the second half and Chris Preece completed the tally after Llanrhaeadr had pulled one back.

League leaders, Talgarth Town won 3-0 in the all Mid-Wales League (South) clash at St Harmon. The home side gave as good as they got for much of the tie but are struggling to find the net whereas Talgarth have been scoring goals for fun.

And after a goalless first half, Ben Sharman, Kyle O’Shea and Scott Pavey did score for Chris Voyle’s side.

Brecon Northcote progressed with a 3-2 verdict at Newtown Wanderers with Glyn Hobbs breaking away to grab a second half winner. Topscorer, Joel Evans had put Northcote two up, one of his goals coming from the penalty spot, but a lack of concentration saw Newtown get back on level terms before half-time.

Also through from the Mid-Wales League (South) are Knighton Town, Presteigne Reserves and Newcastle.

Knighton Town Reserves pulled one of the best wins of the day beating Talybont, who are second in the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth & District League first division, 4-1 at home.

Jordan Griffiths and Billy Hyett put Knighton two up at half-time and Ryan Cadwallader and Justin Emery completed the win after the visitors had pulled one back.

Presteigne Reserves came from a goal down to beat Measglas 2-1 at Llanandras Park. The visitors took an early lead but Tom Crichton levelled and Duanne Anning grabbed a late winner

Newcastle defeated Aberystwyth University Reserves 5-2 with Tom Bright netting twice. Matthew Jones, Richard Jones and Craig Morris were also on target for the Shropshire side.

Penybont Reserves, Rhayader Town Reserves and Llanidloes Town Reserves play their second round ties a week on Saturday.

Builth Wells made an early exit from the competition beaten 5-0 at home by Pencader while Llandrindod Wells Reserves were desperately unlucky. The Spa were beaten 8-7 in a penalty shoot out by Llanfyllin Town after the scores were level at 1-1 at the end of extra-time.
