BRECON Corries played host to Treforest FC in a league fixture kindly sponsored by The Bank, Brecon (www.thebankbarbrecon.co.uk) after a long period of postponed fixtures due to the inclement weather.
On a pitch still reeling from the wet spell it was sure to be a tough encounter.
In a first half of chances for both sides the Corries were unfortunate not to score earlier than they actually did. Gareth Aplin persisted in causing all sorts of bother for the away side throughout the duration of the first 45.
Defensively astute, the back four looked solid and were given direction from Captain and goal keeper Stephen Price. On the stroke half an hour manager Damien Daniels crossed in for Aplin to give the home side a well-deserved 1-0 lead.
Eight minutes later a Joe Sissons slip was enough to allow Treforest a sniff on goal which they duly converted to send the teams in evens at the half.
It’s often said that football is "a funny old game" and "a game of two halves." This was certainly the case on Saturday afternoon as the Corries ran riot.
Jack Evans scored a beauty in the 57 minute from a glorious Gavin Perry through ball which could easily have been played simpler to a rather sweaty Austin Mellor thundering down the right.
Three minutes later it was that man Aplin again who crossed in for Paulie Keddle to score his first at the second time of asking. A minute later and Paulie had his brace after a free kick was fired into the box by Gavin Perry.
Not wanting to be left out, cousin Brian Keddle fancied getting in on the action and duly slotted home a thunder cracker on 70 minutes after a Paulie Keddle assist.
Now 5-1 up with 20 minutes remaining it was time for some ruthless play. Brian completed his brace on 80 minutes followed by a team snooze which resulted in a second Treforest goal a minute later.
With time running out it was left for eventual man of the match Paulie Keddle to complete his hat-trick after an assist from substitute Ben Prosser to wrap the game up against decent opposition.
The final score was Brecon Corries 7-2 Treforest FC. A very good team performance and a very difficult decision for man of the match which saw Paulie pip Gareth Aplin to the post.
This weekend, Corries welcome Pencoed to The Rich Way Field.
