KNIGHTON Town maintained their one point lead at the top of the Spar Mid Wales League first division with Mark Jones bagging a hat-trick in a 6-2 victory at Tywyn Bryncrug.

The Radnor Robins showed no effects of the long journey as they virtually had the points in the bag after twelve minutes when they led 3-0. Connor Bird grabbed the opener and then combined with strike partner Jones who score a second. And a fine individual effort from Bird left Tywyn with a mountain to climb.

The hosts did pull one back early in the second half but Jones went on to complete his treble first firing home a free-kick and then getting his hat-trick goal from Adam Worton’s corner. Tywyn netted a second but Knighton had the final word with substitute, Sam Williams completing their tally with Bird creating the opportunity.

Hay St Marys stretched their winning run in league and cup to six with a 4-1 home success over Llanidloes Town Reserves. Matt James claimed the first Siants’ goal but that was immediately cancelled out by Rhys Evans who netted a penalty for The Daffs following a foul by man of the match, Steve Goodwin.

Jack Biggs volleyed Hay back in front and Rob Sneddon scored with a 30 yard free-kick leaving Brendan Hackett to complete the win with the only goal of the second half.

Llandrindod Wells will be disappointed at only managing a 1-1 draw at bottom of the table, Montgomery Town.
