LOCAL interest in the JD Welsh Cup ended at the weekend as Rhayader Town and Llandrindod Wells both suffered second round defeats.

Spar Mid-Wales League first division leaders, Rhayader took on Goytre United, who top the Welsh League first division and The Red Kites fell to a 2-1 home defeat.

Goytre had a very direct approach with three decent forwards and took the lead on the half hour following a mistake by Rhayader player-manager, Jason Samuel. The visitors doubled their lead at the start of the second half but Rhayader reduced the deficit through a Tom Wozencraft penalty following a foul on FRichie Powell.

Town might well have forced extra-time with Powell firing over after going clear while they also had strong shouts for a second penalty turned down.

Llandrindod Wells bowed out with a 1-0 defeat at Llantwit Major.
