BRECON Corries opened their 2015-16 season on Saturday, August 15 with a trip to South Wales Alliance League Div 2 side Tynte Rovers in the FAW Trophy.

Despite an intense pre-season schedule the young Corries team looked rusty and out-of-sorts, and it turned out to be a disappointing afternoon. It was the team two leagues below the Corries that dominated this game from the outset, their direct style of play causing all sorts of problems for the Corries defence and they quickly opened the scoring.

The Corries rarely had the ball in the opening half hour, always being on the back foot, but against the run of play the Corries found themselves back in the game when Oli James headed in after 40 mins.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first and the Corries soon found themselves exiting the FAW Trophy competition. A cheap penalty saw them 2-1 down and soon after they were finished as Tynte Town made it 3-1 and booked their place in the next round.

On Tuesday August 18, the Corries played their first game in the brand new South Wales Alliance League - Premier Division welcoming Penydarren BGC to the Rich Field.

Desperate to put the previous Saturday’s disappointment behind them, the Corries fielded a strong starting XI, with the likes of Paul Keddle and Brian Keddle returning from injury and new signing Liam Mills making his League debut.

What looked to be an exciting fixture on paper turned out to be a drab affair in the first half with neither team able to create any real openings. But the second half was a much different affair.

Whatever was discussed in the Corries changing room at half time certainly made a difference - the home team showing some passion and a desire to fight and win. The rewards soon came as Gavin Perry made it 1-0 to the Corries, much to the delight of the home fans.

It should have been 2-0 had Corries forward Kaz Rohbani-Eivazi not put Paul Keddle’s goal-bound header out for a goal kick.

A nervous final half hour ensued as Penydarren looked to equalise but the Corries dug deep and claimed all 3 points.

Brecon Corries FC Vice-Chairman & Secretary Adam Jones said: "We would like to thank David Burgess of BGS - Burgess Gardening Services for sponsoring Tuesday’s game against Penydarren."

The Corries’ next game is at home against Penrhiwfer AFC in the FAW Welsh Cup - Qualifying Round 1 on Saturday August 22, 2pm kick off.
