NEWBRIDGE were celebrating a 3-1 home victory over local rivals, Builth Wells in the Spar Mid Wales League second division last Wednesday night.

Aeron Powell handed The Villagers an early lead netting from the penalty spot after being brought down. Debutant, Jack Trattell hit a second from 25 yards but Newbridge were hampered by the loss of ‘keeper, Fin Duncan-McKane in the second half.

Player-boss, Matt Aubrey donned the ‘keeper’s gloves and saw Ollie Woods head a third from Ashley Beach’s cross before Dave Thomas pulled one back for Builth whose player-manager, Shane Claridge said: "We created chances in the second half but the damage was done in the first 20 minutes, Newbridge were deserved winners."

Newbridge went on to draw 1-1 at Abermule on Saturday with Adam Chessell heading their goal after Ryan Evans had put Abermule ahead.

Meanwhile Builth Wells bounced back from that midweek defeat and top the early season table following a 2-1 victory over previously unbeaten Four Crosses. Goals from Dave Thomas and Charlie Boucher were enough with Ben Simms scoring for the visitors.

Tom Ammonds’ first game as Presteigne manager saw the Llanandras Park side battle out a goalless draw against Llansantffraid Village. The game sprung to life in the second half when both sides missed penalties.

Danny Evans missed for Presteigne while Llansantffraid also failed from the spot after Presteigne’s John Cawley was sent off for handball on the goal line.
