NEWBRIDGE are through to the second qualifying round of the JD Welsh Cup after knocking out Waterloo Rovers on penalties.

The sides were locked together at 4-4 after extra-time before The Villagers prevailed in the shoot out. Andy Gwilt scored all four Rovers goals with Ashley beach and Kejan Foryszewski netting twice each for Newbridge whose ‘keeper, Fin Duncan- McKane saved Gwilt’s penalty as it ended 7-6 in the shoot out.

Brecon Corries are also through after beating Kerry 3-1 at home thanks to player-manager, Damien Daniels, Paul Keddle and Luke Roughley.

Presteigne however bowed out of the competition after falling to a 3-1 defeat at home against Spar Division Two rivals, Borth United. Matt Strangwood had twice given Presteigne the lead and they missed enough chances to have put the tie to bed. But Liam Lewis netted twice for Borth before Ben Byrne snatched a late winner.
