BRECON FC closed the gap on leaders, Rhayader Town Reserves at the top of the Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South) with a 3-1 home success against Llanidloes Town Reserves.
While Rhayader were frustrated by a waterlogged pitch, Brecon were making it back to back wins. After a goalless first half, Brecon found themselves trailing to a penalty but Craig Jones headed an equaliser from Kyle O’Shea’s cross. And topscorer, O’Shea went on to win it for Brecon with two goals, the second coming just minutes from the end.
Brecon Northcote also made it back to back wins with a fine 3-2 victory at Presteigne Reserves. Lewys Powell got a debit goal for Brecon from the penalty spot following a foul on Joel Evans but Presteigne it back to lead 2-1 at the break. Powell latched on to a through ball to level the scores before Corey Evans smashed home a late winner.
Talgarth’s revival came to a halt as they went down 3-0 at home against Newcastle. There were no goals in the first half but Tom Bright headed the Shropshire side ahead at the far post. Bright scrambled home a second and Jimmy Thomas wrapped it up for Newcastle when he fired their third from 25 yards.
Builth Wells Reserves had a day to forget as they crashed to an 8-0 defeat at Carno Reserves whose Kieran beaton led the way with a hat-trick. Geraint Jones scored twice with Craig Scott, Danny Pierce and Luke Palmer-Jones also on target for Carno who made it three wins on the bounce.
