SPAR MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 1
LLANDRINDOD Wells turned in a five star display to make it back to back wins in the Spar Mid Wales League first division with a 5-0 home success against Machynlleth.
After winning 5-0 at Machynlleth in the Welsh Cup last month, manager, Pete Williams was confident his side could pick up the points which they duly did. Shane Pritchard fired the Spa men ahead and Stuart Williams added a second with a direct free-kick.
In the second half, former player manager,Gareth Jones netted from close range, Ryan Sims added a fourth and an own goal completed the nap hand for Llandrindod whose win was however marred by an injury to the influential Robbie Nicholls.
Radnor Valley moved into a mid table position with late drama at School Lane where they defeated Churchstoke 3-2.
The visitors struck first when Tony Meredith was brought down by ‘keeper, Wil Fowden and Joe Haycock netted from the penalty spot. Callum Matthews had Radnor back on terms by half-time bursting through to net from a tight angle. Radnor went ahead on 88 minutes with Geraint Lloyd scoring from close range and immediately they added a third through Joey Price from the games second penalty after Liam Jones was brought down. There was still time for Haycock to volley a second for Radnor but it was too little to late for Churchstoke.
Knighton Town however failed to make it a hat-trick of wins for the Radnorshire sides as they fell to a 3-1 defeat at Bow Street.Mattie Evans and Llion Jenkins put Bow Street two up, Adam Farmer raised Knighton hopes but a third for the hosts from Dean Evans settled matters.
Llanidloes Town remain top of Division One with a solitary second half strike from Richie Evans earning a hard earned 1-0 victory at Aberaeron.
Llanfair United are second after stoppage time goals from Phil Hughes and Andrew Hughes snatched a dramatic 5-3 win against Tywyn Bryncrug. Toby Evans and a Phil Hughes brace had seen Llanfair 3-1 up but Tywyn pegged them back to 3-3 with just five minutes remaining through Nick Wiliams, Aled Jones and David Jenkins..
Llanrhaeadr were also among the goals with Khyam Wyton (2), Marc Griffiths (2) Daniel Graham (pen)and an own goal securing a 6-0 home success over Borth United who had ‘keeper, Jamie Evans sent off in the first half.
Carno and Berriew drew 1-1 with Dave Roberts snatching Berriew’s equaliser three minutes into stoppage time after Harry Holt had handed Carno the lead.
Honours were also even at Welshpool Town on Friday night when the hosts shared eight goals with Kerry in an exciting 4-4 draw. Wil Thomas, Dan Bowen, Sam Evans and an own goal made up the Welshpool tally with Luke Mumford and Max McLaughlin each scoring twice for Kerry, who are the only unbeaten side in Spar One.
SPAR MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 2
Richie Powell helped himself to a hat-trick as Builth Wells climbed top of the Spar Mid Wales League second division with a 6-0 thrashing of Montgomery Town. Johnny Samuel set the ball rolling with a fine 30 yard strike and Powell headed a second from a Christian Jones cross before half-time. Once Powell headed his second and Builth’s third, the floodgates opened and Christian Jones and Will Cleaton extended the lead before Powell completed his hat-trick.
Presteigne chalked up their third league win of the term in beating Newbridge 4-2 at home on Friday night. The home side raced into a three goal interval lead through Josh Gardner, Joel Layton and Matt Strangwood but Newbridge were not for lying down. The visitors hit back in the second half with Alfie Stonefield and Ollie Woods reducing the deficit. Stonefield then had a”goal” ruled out before Gardner’s second eased Presteigne’s nerves.
Brecon Northcote (pictured in blue) completed a league double over Dyffryn Banw with Glyn Hobbs a two goal hero in their 2-1 home success but Hay St Marys suffered their first defeat of the term in the league, going down 3-0 at Llansantffraid Village. Late withdrawals meant manager, Gareth Jenkins had to don his boots and it got worse for The Saints who saw Jordan Bailey and Jamie Howard sent off as goals from Nathan Prodger (2) and Harry Kerr won it for Llansantffraid.
There was no joy either for Penybont who turned in a much improved performance before going down 2-0 at Abermule where two late penalties from Rob Bayliss gave Clive McNamee’s side the spoils.
Talgarth Town were frustrated as their game at Dolgellau was called off on Saturday morning due to a waterlogged pitch.
WATSON FINANCIAL MID WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)
Rhayader Town maintained their unbeaten start to the campaign with a 6-3 away win at Knighton Town reserves in the Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South). The Red Kites however had to overturn an interval deficit to make it five wins from five in all competitions. Rhayader had taken a first minute lead through the in-form Michael Fowlie but Billy Hyett and Scott Davies turned the tables with goals for the hosts. Ryan Addison headed Rhayader level but Knighton were back in front by the break through Harry Worton. Rhayader made changes at half-time and dominated the second half and Fowlie levelled from the penalty spot when Alex Clarke was brought down. Clarke then curled one in from 25 yards to edge Rhayader in front and Joe Wozencraft headed in after superb work from Mattie Lewis before Jamie Evans completed the scoring.
Dave Thomas notched the top individual feat of the day with a five goal haul as Builth Wells Reserves romped to a 12-1 victory at Felindre. The newcomers had no answer to Thomas, who netted five for the second time this season, and Michael Evans who bagged a hat-trick. Charlie Boucher, Brad Rollinson, George Wood and Marcus Meadows were also on target for a rampant Builth with Charlie Reynolds gaining Felindre’s consolation.
Another striker on top of his game on Saturday was Presteigne Reserves’ Tom Crichton who scored all four goals as the Llanandras Park side defeated St Harmon 4-0 at home.
Hay St Marys Reserves came from a goal down to make it three wins from four as they beat Llandrindod Wells Reserves 3-1 in the Friday night game. Scott Oxford have the Spa men an interval lead but an own goal from Charlie Vermiere levelled the scores. Ricky Lynes put The Saints ahead and a second own goal from the unfortunate Vermiere handed the spoils to Hay.
MID WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH) SUMMER CUP FINAL
Rhayader Town lifted the Owen Evans Memorial Mid Wales League (South) Summer Cup with a 3-2 victory at Hay St Marys Reserves last Tuesday night. Rhayader twice found themselves trailing but hit back with Ryan Addison snatching a late winner at Forest Road.
Tyler Garrard took just three minutes to put Hay ahead from Darren Horrigan’s cross but Rhayader went on to have the better of the first half and Aaran Bates curled in an equaliser from Ryan Addson’s cross. Rhayader dominated the second half but again fell behind when a mix-up between defender, Joe Wozencraft and ‘keeper, Liam Addison gifted Horrigan a second for The Saints. Town immediately went back on the attack and substitute, Jamie Evans levelled before Addison smashed the winner from close range following a Bates corner in the final minute.
