ASPIDISTRA RADNORSHIRE CUP
Knighton Town are in this season’s Aspidistra Radnorshire Cup Final following Sunday’s 3-0 semi-final victory at Newbridge.
Danny Ives gave The Robins a first half lead, Connor Bird added a second from the penalty spot and Mark Jones sealed the win two minutes from time.
Ives opened the scoring at the near post from player-manager, Adam Worton’s corner and Connor Bird and Mark Jones had further chances but could not find that telling touch.
Jake Bufton failed to capitalise on a decent chance and Lyndon Jones and Ollie Woods had efforts that never really troubled Knighton stand-in ‘keeper, Sam Williams.
Knighton increased their lead in the second half with Bird scoring after being pushed in the box and Mark Jones completed the win from a through ball by Ives although Newbridge, who defended really well throughout, might well have gained the consolation their performance deserved but the experienced Adriano Giralami headed inches wide in the final minute.
In Easter Sunday’s Final, Knighton will meet Builth Wells or Radnor Valley whose semi-final was postponed on Sunday and will now be played on Sunday February 25.
SPAR MID WALES LEAGUE
Brecon Northcote extended their unbeaten league run to seven in the only Spar Mid Wales league game to beat the weather at the weekend. Top scorer, Joel Evans twice put Northcote ahead with Jack Williams and James Langford equalising with Montgomery’s second goal coming in stoppage time.
Brecon, as a result, move into fourth place in the table above Hay St Marys on goal difference but with two games in hand and have done really well since being promoted from the Mid Wales League (South) in the summer.
Northcote’s impressive form of late will be put to the test this weekend when they visit Spar first division leaders Welshpool Town in the second round of the League Cup.
WATSON FINANCIAL MID WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)
St Harmon consolidated their mid table position in the Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South) with a 3-0 victory at Felindre. Tom Groves scored twice – his first league goals of the season – and Alun Evans was also on target as The Swifts made it back to back wins for the first time since September. The remainder of the day’s programmes was washed out with waterlogged pitches the story across the region.
EMRYS MORGAN CUP
Newcastle’s Emrys Morgan Cup run is over after suffering a 3-1 quarter final defeat at home against Forden United at the quarter final stage. The Montgomery Amateur League side opened up a three goal interval lead Kieran Evans, Darryl Jones and Mike Henderson-Smith and Calum Evans reduced the deficit with a penalty midway through the second half for the Shropshire side but that was as good as it got. It was a successful day for the Amateur League with Four Crosses also progressing with two goals from Ben Simms earning a 2-1 extra-time victory over Tregaron.
SPAR MID WALES LEAGUE
Radnor Valley’s Paul Morgan has been named the Spar Mid Wales League Manager of the Month for January.
In a month of few league games due to Central Wales Cup ties and the weather, Radnor recorded league wins against Llanrhaeadr at home and Machynlleth in a game played on Aberystwyth Town’s 3G pitch. Gareth Jenkins, of Hay St Mary,s is the second division manager of the Month. The Saints played just once in the league beating Dyffryn Banw 3-0 at home to extend their then unbeaten league run to six.
The face there were so few league games played in January means there is no Player of the Month award.
