SPAR MID WALES LEAGUE CUP

Radnor Valley are in the quarter final of the Spar Mid Wales League Cup following a 3-0 win at Llanidloes Town. The Goats beat the Daffs for the fourth time in four meetings this season with second half goals from Liam Jones, Joey Price and Callum Matthews.

Llanidloes had chances in a goalless first half with Matthew Lloyd making one superb last ditch tackle while ‘keeper, Will Fowden had to be on top of his game. At the other end, Aaron Warwick did well to keep out Joey Price’s free-kick.

Liam Jones, who has missed the last few games though work, broke the deadlock on the hour putting his free-kick into the top corner. When Llani ‘keeper, Warwick denied Elliot Morris, the ball fell to Joey Price who fired a second into an empty met from 20 yards and there was no way back for Llanidloes when Callum Matthews added the third from a lovely Elliot Morris through ball.

It was the end of the road for second division leaders, Builth Wells who exited the competition beaten on penalties at first division, Berriew. Will Gittins gave Berriew the lead but Builth responded well with Richie Powell putting Joel Metcalf in for an equaliser. Builth then went ahead with Jonny Samuel firing in from the edge of the box before half-time. Berriew saw a lot of ball in the second half but Builth defended well only to concede a second when Jake Mann’s header deflected in off Gethin Jarman. Despite Richie Powell hitting the bar in extra-tie, there was no further score and Builth went on lose in the penalty shoot out with player-manager, Chris Jones and Jack Hammonds their only two to net from the spot.

Brecon Northcote knew they were in for a difficult afternoon at first division leaders, Welshpool Town but their tie was abandoned following a serious injury to Luke Bowen. He broke his leg and referee, Steve Bradford abandoned the tie while an air ambulance arrived. Both Northcote and Luke Bowen wish to thank Welshpool Town and the air ambulance service for their assistance.

Carno got their season back on track with a terrific 2-1 win at Llanrhaeadr thanks to Peter Rees and Scott Williams after Iwan Matthews had given Llanrhaeadr the lead early in the second half.

Llanfair eased through 5-0 at home against Churchstoke thanks to Toby Evans (2), Josh Astley, Phil Hughes and Ashley Davies while Bow Street triumphed 2-1 at Abermule.

Bow Street were 2-1 winners at Abermule with goals from Tomos Williams and llion Jenkins with Steff Rowlands levelling for Abermule just before half-time.

SPAR MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 1

Llandrindod wells returned to winning ways in the Spar Mid Wales League first division with a comfortable 5-1 home victory over Borth United. Ryan Sims gave the Spa men an early lead and Kieran McCarley then struck twice before half-time. Llandrindod put the result beyond doubt on the hour with Sims grabbing his second following a super move down the left. Ryan Edward pulled one back for Borth from the penalty spot but Llandrindod, who welcomed midfielder, Ashley Jones back following a spell at Berriew, had the final say with Ben Jones heading their fifth from McCarley’s corner.

Knighton Town had kicked the local football action off with a 2-0 home success against Aberaeron on Friday night. First half goals from Tom James and Sam Williams were the difference as the Robins ended Aberaeron’s recent eight match unbeaten league run.

James opened the scoring after Connor Bird’s strike was parried and Williams powered home a header from Dan Farmer’s cross. Knighton had chances to extend their lead after the break while their own back four put in an excellent display and never looked like conceding.

In the only other first division game at the week-end, Kerry, who still have sixteen league games to play, notched their first win since October with brothers, Matt and Luke Mumford and Max McLaughlin contributing to a 3-2 victory over a much improved Machynlleth.

SPAR MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 2

Newbridge turned in their best performance for some time to net a Spar Mid Wales League second division point in a 1-1 draw at Dolgellau. The Villagers, now without a win in eight, dominated first half possession and saw Aeron Powell miss a penalty after being taken out. Dolgellau had a penalty of their own moments later but Fin Duncan McKaine atoned after he ‘keeper had conceded the spot-kick. Newbridge took the lead with Ieuan Price and Kyle Morgan combining too free Jake Bufton whose cross was put away by Ollie Woods. The visitors again had the lions share of possession after the break but were unable to add to their tally and Dominic Thomas levelled when a long ball got past an otherwise water tight Newbridge defence.

Hay St Marys closed in on third placed Aberystwyth University with a convincing 5-0 success at local rivals, Talgarth Town. The Saints are now three points behind the students with three games in hand and a third placed finish would be a good season for Hay who have had to rebuild following the loss of so many key players in the summer.

Hay got off to the perfect start on Saturday and Jack Biggs headed them in front before a Talgarth player had even touched the ball. Darren Horrigan put Tom Landon in for a second goal on twenty minutes and it was three on the hour with Matty Tong netting from a Biggs pass. Callum Maddy increased the lead and Tong missed a penalty following a foul on Jamie Howard before Biggs finished what he had started with his second of the game late in day.

Llansantffraid Village ae the new second division leaders following their 5-0 win at Montgomery Town. Wayne Austin, Nathan Prodger, Matthew Davies, Rob Carruthers and Tom Gayle netted for Llansantffraid who are now a point above Builth Wells but have played three games more.

Aberystwyth University and Dyffryn Banw drew 2-2 and the point for Banw was sufficient to take thee above Presteigne on goal difference. Presteigne were frustrated with their trip to Penybont postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

WATSON FINANCIAL MID WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)

Builth Wells Reserves made it four wins in a row in the Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South) with a 3-0 local derby success over Llandrindod wells Reserves on the Lant Field. With new signings, Tom Bethell and Gavin Samuel ineligible for the first team in their League Cup tie, Builth manager, Daryl Wood was able to include them in his side. And both made an impression with Bethel heading in from Bradley Rollinson’s corner before Samuel got a seond from another corner kick. Charlie Boucher added a third from another set piece and after twenty minutes it was game over for Builth who are away at St Harmon this week-end.

Rhayader Town made it eleven wins from as many games with a big 9-0 victory at bottom of the tale, Felindre as Jamie Evans led the way with a hat-trick. Lee Harley netted twice with Ryan Addison, Jordan Mcfadden, Alex Clarke and Michael Fowlie completing the tally.

Leaders, Llanidloes Town Reserves were the days topscorers as The Daffs hammered eleven without reply at Brecon Northcote Reserves. Josh Matthews helped himself to four and there were hat-tricks for Gregg Brown and the returning Jordan Jones with Dave Jerman completing the spree.

Knighton Town Reserves were also among the goal with Scott Davies and Billy Hyett both registering hat-tricks in an 8-1 win at Hay St Marys Reserves. Jack Brindley scored twice with Noah Cripps, one of Hay’s crop of 16 year olds, gaining a consolation for The Saints.

Newcastle bounced back from their Emrys Morgan Cup defeat to extend their unbeaten league run to eleven with a 3-0 in at St Harmon. Sam Windsor gave the Shropshire side an interval lead and player-manager, Craig Morris and Calum Evans were on target in the second half.
