WATSON FINANCIAL MID WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)
BUILTH Wells Reserves have finished fourth in the Watson Financial Mid Wales league (South) following victory in the final league game of the season. Builth defeated Hay St Marys Reserves 2-0 thanks to second half goals from Charlie Boucher and Josh Price. Dave Thomas, for once, failed to get on the scoresheet but the Builth striker will receive the McCartneys Cup awarded to the league’s topscorer with an impressive 37 league goals to his name.
But Thomas was on target on Saturday as Builth rounded off their campaign by lifting their own Builth Spa Cup. The Bulls took on local rivals, Newbridge and triumphed 2-1 thanks to two late goals. Builth struggled to contain Newbridge’s Lyndon Jones and Aeron Powell in the first half and Powell put The Villagers head with a stunning free-kick. Builth hit back in the second half but were unable to find an equaliser.
As Newbridge tired, Bulth utilised their bench and a change of formation immediately paid dividends with Thomas levelling before Gethin Jarman grabbed a winner two minutes from time. SPAR MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 1
RADNOR Valley ended their Spar Mid Wales League first division campaign with two away wins ensuring they are the top local side in the division. The Goats, who lifted the Radnorshire Cup for the first time ever last month are currently seventh but could slip down a place if Aberaeron beat Churchstoke tonigh (Wednesday).
Radnor signed off for the summer with a convincing 5-0 victory at Borth United on Thursday night.Two first half goals from the evergreen Geraint Lloyd put Radnor in charge and Elliot Morris thumped a header against the bar just before the interval. Dewi Allen added a third Radnor goal early in the second half and a fine solo effort from Steve Morgan increased the lead before Morris comleted the tally.
Two days earlier, Radnor had triumphed 2-0 at Churchstoke courtesy of goals from Lewis Morris and Liam Jones.
Knighton Town, who finish their season away at Champions, Llanrhaeadr on Friday night, slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Kerry. With just three regular first teamers available, Knighton fielded a very young side and held out until Tom Jones gave Kerry the lead just before half-time. Jack Brindley and Declan Beddoes had chances to equalise in the second half and player-manager, Adam Worton saw his volley saved on 70 minutes. Max McLaughlin sealed it with a second five minutes from time for Kerry who have ended their campaign with four straight wins while the fact Knighton ended the game on Saturday with five players seventeen and under bodes well as they held their own for long periods.
Kerry had won 4-2 at Llandrindod Wells last Monday night with goals from Daryl McWatt, Maax Mclaughlin, Luke Mumford and former Penybont and St Harmon midfielder, James price who netted the pick of the bunch. Player-manager, Gareth Jones and Ryan Sims replied for Llandrindod who completed their league fixtures on Monday night with Shaun Nicholls and Ashley Jones netting in a 2-0 win against League Cup finalists, Bow Street.
Llanrheadr are showing little signs of easing up although were made to battle for a 4-3 home success over Bow Street o saturday. It looked plain sailing as Tom Evans, Barry Morris and Khyam Wyton put Llanrhaeadr three up at half-time but they needed a late winner from Chris Aitken after Ifan Burrell, Steff Antoniazzi and Garmon Nutting had pegged them back.
