MMP MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 1
Honours were even in the big Boxing Day clash on The Lant Field in the MMP Mid Wales League first division with Builth Wells drawing 1-1 with local rivals, Llandrindod Wells. A close game was expected with the sides separated by just two points in mid table and it was Llandrindod who took a second half lead with a deflected strike from Daryl Nicholls. Llandrindod must have then thought they were going to avenge a 2-1 defeat on The Broadway earlier in the term but Richie Powell levelled with a close range header for Builth against his former club.
Llanidloes Town went top of the table on Boxing Day with a 1-0 victory at local rivals, Caersws. A solitary goal from Gareth Owen in first half stoppage time was enough to knock The Bluebirds off top spot.
Caersws had dropped further points when they drew 2-2 at home against Berriew the previous Saturday. Joe Haycock gave Berriew the lead but Mark Edmondson levelled with his 20th goal of the season before former Rhayader Town midfielder, Lance Jones gave the hosts an interval lead. Craig Pearce equalised for Berriew midway through the second half when The Rhiewsiders felt they had chances to have win it.
And Berriew are now just four points behind Llanidleos with two games in hand following their 4-1 Boxing Day success over Kerry.Dewi Hughes, Charlie Humphreys, Joe Haycock and Tomos Williams shared the goals with Luke Mumford gaining Kerry’s consolation from the penalty spot.
Llanfair United kept their challenge on course with a 4-0 victory at Llansantffraid Village with all the goals coming ina one sides second half from Toby Evans, Josh Astley, Karl Seliaerts (pen) and Ryan McVeagh.
Welshpool Town also remain in the title hunt and defeated Kerry 7-1 on the Saturday prior to Christmas. Wil Thomas again led the way with a four goal haul while Ricky Lichfield completed a hat-trick.
Geraint Jones (2) and Joe Morris netted for Carno who were disappointed in only managing a 3-3 draw at home against lowly Tywyn Bryncrug . Buit it could have been worse as Tywyn had led 3-1 at one stage through Aled Jones, Tom Allen Davies and Iwan Jones.
MMP MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 2
Newbridge rekindled their MMP Mid Wales League second division title challenge with a 2-1 Boxing Day victory over local rivals, Rhayader Town. Dave Thomas gave The Villagers the lead but topscorer, Jamie Evans put Rhayader back on level terms. Newbridge then had to be on top of their game defensively as Rhayader threatened again but it was the home side who claimed the derby spoils with Lyndon Jones grabbing the winner.
Hay St Marys remain second after a 5-2 home success over Presteigne. There were two goals for Matty Tong with Jack Biggs, Brendan Hackett and the returning Matty James also on target.
Montgomery Town, who have a three point advantage over The Saints but have played two games more, remain top after a 301 success over Four Crosses. Jack Williams, Tom Evans and Scott Williams netted for the league leaders with Dave Hartshorn responding for Crosses who had a player sent off.
Waterloo Rovers maintained their recent form with Andrew Gwilt and Charlie Proctor each scoring twice in a 7-1 romp at Abermule. Chris Proctir, Ollie Davies and Scott Holley also netted with Tommy Jones replying for Abermule who had Nick Mumbt sent off.
Machynlleth eased their relegation fears with Andrew Page scoring five times in a 7-2 win against Borth United. Joseph Bell netted twice with Guto Huws and Jay Walker replying for Borth who had goalkeeper, Ben Willis and manager, Ian Lewis sent off five minutes before half-time.
Dyffryn Banw and Dolgellau conjured up a Christmas cracker as their game ended 4-4.
WATSON FINANCIAL MID WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)
Llanidloes Town will go into the New Year second in the Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South).
In the one game played over the festive period, The Daffs beat Penybont United 3-0 at home. Jordan Jones opened the scoring and Rhys Evans doubled the lead with a scorching 20-yard volley before Kai Evans made certain of the spoils.
Llanidleos have now won six in a row and four straight wins in December has seen them named Team of the Month.
