MP MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 1

Llandrindod Wells extended their recent unbeaten run in the MMP Mid Wales League first division to seven with a 6-0 home victory over Llansantffraid Village.

The in-form Spa men hit The Saints for six with two goal Robbie Nicholls leading the way. It was a very good first half performance from Llandrindod who were guilty of missing a number of chances. They did lead at the break with Nicholls laying a one two with Ashley Jones before surging intot the box to fire home.

Llandrindod got an early second half goal with Jones playing Samed De Groot in to lob the ball over the advancing ‘keeper. Llansantffraid upped their game in the second half but Llandrindod’s finishing was spot on and Nicholls extended the lead cutting it from the left to curl an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

Michael Collister went through one on one to add a fourth and an own goal was followed by Ryan Sims completing the scoring from a Nicholls through ball.

Builth Wells however saw their good run ended as they suffered a 3-2 defeat at Carno although they did more than enough to have earned a point having trailed 3-0 at half-time. Builth were poor in the first half and goals from Andy Evans, Harry Holt and the returning Sam Williams saw Carno score three times in the opening half hour.

Manager, Dylan McPhee was disappointed in that first half showing but pleased after the break as Builth refused to give up.

Danny Ives pulled a goal back with a volley from substitute, Shaun Powell’s corner. Richie Powell hit the bar and Sam Williams then did the same from the penalty spot following a push on Chris Roff. Will Cleaton further reduced the deficit with seven minutes remaining but in the end that three-goal deficit proved too much to claw back.

Llanidloes Town maintained their three point lead at the top with a 3-1 home success over title rivals, Berriew coming from behind for the second week in a row. Steffan Rogers had given Berriew the lead but Ed Clarke equalised for The Daffs before half-time. Peter Rees put llanidloes in front in the second half and Connor Bird clinched the win heading hoem a great ball from Adam Worton.

Caersws stay second after a 2-0 home win against Bow Street. Mark Edmondson broke the deadlock with a header just after the hour and captain Lance Jones sealed the points with a late second goal.

Llanfair United kept up their challenge with two goals from Karl Seliaerts securing a 2-1 home success over Aberaeron. Seliaerts gave Llanfair the lead early in the second half, Elwyn Edwards headed Aberaeron lead but Seliaerts won it from the penalty spot after being pushed in the box.

Luke Mumford starred with all four goals as Kerry defeated Tywyn Bryncrug 4-2 at home. Mumford also missed a penalty with Nick Williams and Aled Jones replying for Tywyn who played much of the game with ten following the dismissal of Iwan Jones on 25 minutes.

Radnor Valley were frustrated when their scheduled trip to bottom of the table. Churchstoke was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

MMP MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 2

Greg Preece recorded the top individual feat of the weekend with a five goal haul as Hay St Marys romped to a 7-0 win at Aberystwyth University in the MMP Mid Wales League second division. After dropping points at Presteigne the previous week, The Saints well and truly got their title challenge back on course against the students who are yet to win a game this term. Hay were three goals to the good in the first 15 minutes and led 4-0 at half-time with Jack Biggs also netting while Jack Cook got his first goal for the club.

Hay remain eight points behind Montgomery Town but have three games in hand on the leaders who beat Borth United 2-0 at home. Lee Jones and Sam Davies were on target for Montgomery who have now won ten in a row.

Newbridge dropped vital points as they were held 1-1 at home by Dolgellau. The Villagers began brightly taking an early lead through Dave Thomas but David Edwards levelled soon after for the visitors.

Newbridge failed to get going after that and coach, Scott Davies said “We had the majority of possession but did not create enough to win the game.” Presteigne St Andrews saw their revival continue with a 3-3 draw at Abermule. Duanne Anning scored twice and Ewan Rhodes also netted for Presteigne who led 1-0 before trailing 3-1. Manager, Shaun Harris said “It was a good point on the road but although before the game we knew we really needed to win this one”

Rhayader Town slipped to a fourth consecutive league defeat beaten 3-1 at Four Crosses who scored through Jamie Evans (2) and Ollie Jones.

Rhayader had dominated the first half and top scorer Jamie Evans put them in front with a bullet header from an Aaron Bates corner. Evans had another chance saved by the home ‘keeper while Jordan McFadden squandered a couple of chances. Rhayader were on the back foot for most of the second half although it took Crosses until the last ten minutes to level after which they ratttled in another two goals in quick succession.

WATSON FINANCIAL MID WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)

Harry Sharman made it back to back hat-tricks in the Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South) as Talgarth Town regained top spot with a 6-0 win at Felindre. Top against bottom was never going to be an upset and The Royals took a further step towards the title with a 13th league win from 13 games. Scott Powell, Jordan Harvey and Jamie Smith were the other goalscorers for Talgarth who head second-placed Llanidloes Town Reserves by a point and have three games in hand.

Brecon Northcote continued their revival with Kyle O’Shea scoring the only goal in a hard-earned 1-0 home success over St Harmon who have not won since the opening day of theh season.

Builth Wells pulled off an impressive 2-0 win against Penybont United with goals from Steve Jarvis and Adam Chessell while Knighton Town took the spoils in the East Radnor derby. The Robins beat arch rivals, Presteigne Reserves 3-1 with goals from Brian White, Dan Farmer and Matty Becker whie Billy Hyett gained a consolation for Presteigne against his former club.
