MMP MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 1

Builth Wells go into Saturday’s MMP Mid Wales League Cup Final against Caersws in good spirits after extending their unbeaten run in the MMP Mid Wales League first division on Saturday with a 3-3 draw at Bow Street. But The Bulls, who were due to host Carno last night (Tuesday) will be disappointed at throwing away a three goal lead. Two goals from Danny Ives and one from Richie Powell had seemingly put Builth on course for a sixth straight league win but Garmon Nutting reduced the deficit on the stroke of half-time.

Despite having the wind behind them in the second half, Builth conceded two more to Tom Williams and Josh Crowl but could still have won it as Sean Popwell, netted with a free-kick, Builth felt was wrongly ruled out for off-side.

Builth had eased to a 5-0 win at bottom of the table, Churchstoke last Thursday night with Tom Bethell scoring twice. Joel Metcalf fired Builth ahead from 20 yards and Chris Roff added a second after Gavin Samuel had flicked on a corner. A great 25 yard finish from Bethell increased the lead and it was four by half-time with Josh Price firing across the ‘keeper. Builth continued to dominate but added just one second half goal with Bethell scoring from the penalty spot following a foul on Sam Williams.

Elsewhere Llanfair United were crowned League Champions and will take their place in the Huws Gray Alliance next season. Rhys Stephens’ side ended their campaign with a 5-2 win at Kerry but did not have it all their own way after twice trailing.

Kerry took the lead against the run of play five minutes before half-time when Max McLaughlin smashed home but straight from the kick off Paul Griffiths set Josh Astley up to lob in from 12 yards.

Jack Hughes put Kerry back in front early in the second half and Griffiths hit the bar with a free-kick for Llanfair whose Astley again tied the scores pouncing on a loose ball from close range. Astley completed his hat-trick converting a low cross from Alun Hughes and took his personal tally to four before Karl Seliaerts got in on the act in the final minute.

Llanfair pipped Llanidloes Town for the title on goal difference and The Daffs did all they could, winning 6-1 at Tywyn Bryncrug. Connor Bird bagged a hat-trick, George Clarke scored twice and Matthew Savage completed the six hit with Aled Jones gaining Tywyn’s consolation.

Llandrindod Wells finish in mid table and signed off with a 2-2 draw at Llansantffraid Village. Jail Kezze netted twice for the Spa men with Wayne Austin getting both Llansantffraid goals.

Radnor Valley notched a comfortable 6-2 win at Churchstoke who will be glad to see the end of the season. The Goats bounced back from their Radnorshire Cup Final defeat with topscorer, Joey Price leading the way with a hat-trick. Craig Pigott scored twice with Matt Croose also netting for Radnor who end their league season away a Bow Street on Saturday.

Carno were 4-1 winners against Aberaeron with Andy Evans and Jac Petrie each scoring twice.

MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 2

The race for the second promotion spot to the MMP Mid Wales League first division will continue following postponements last week-end. The arrival of Storm Hannah saw Rhayader Town’s home clash with Four Crosses washed out as was Hay St Marys trip to Borth United.

Four Crosses are currently a point ahead of Hay in the battle to accompany champions, Montgomery Town into Division One. Four Crosses were due to play at Rhayader last night (Tuesday) while Hay will now go to Borth on Saturday.

WATSON FINANCIAL MID WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)

Two games on Saturday brought the end to the Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South) season. Builth Wells Reserves and Hay St Marys Reserves played out a 3-3 draw at The Lant Field. Daniel Walker, Gethin Jarman and Shane Claridge scored for Builth with Darren Horrigan (2) and Chris Assirati the Hay goalscorers.

Builth had ensured a fifth place finish with a 3-1 victory at Presteigne Reserves last Wednesday night. Gethin Jarman, Liam Ryland and Marcus Meadows netted for The Bulls with Gareth Bull replying for Presteigne.

Builth have done well to finish where they have as player-manager, Darryl Wood has, as have other teams, sometimes struggled for a side but his hard work ensured a more than decent season on The Lant Field.

Elsewhere Penybont United completed their preparations for the League Cup Final with a 2-0 home success over St Harmon.

Both goals came in the first half from Rory Brown and Ryan Lawrence.
