BRECON Corries have suffered penalty shootout heartache at the semi final stage of the South Wales Alliance League Cup.

Porthcawl Town Athletic, who have only just sealed promotion from the Division One, knocked out the premier division side 3-2 on penalties during Wednesday evening’s W John Owen Cup semi-final.

The game was played at the White Tips Stadium in Treforest.

The Division One side took the lead after just 15 minutes through Adam Jones and held the advantage for most of the half.

But on 44 minutes Joel Evans replied for the Corries when he turned in a ball from Jordan Baker.

Neither team could find the winning goal in the second half which meant extra time would be needed to find a winner.

However the two teams still couldn’t be separated with the game finishing at 1-1 and the Corries, who are eighth in the premier division table, taken to a shootout.

Porthcawl’s goalkeeper made three good saves, including a shot from the Corries keeper Brian Keddle and the crucial final kick, to ensure his side’s place in the cup final.
