RHAYADER Town extended their lead at the top of the Spar Mid-Wales League first division with a 2-1 success at Hay St Marys on Friday night.

New signing, Ifan Burrell gave The Red Kites the lead, Brendan Hackett equalised for Hay on the stroke of half-time but Rhys Thomas grabbed Rhayader’s winner early in the second half.

Second placed Berriew will be disappointed in dropping points in a 2-2 draw at home against Llanrhaeadr. Richard Davies had netted twice in the first half to seemingly put Berriew on the road to victory but Marc Griffiths and Tom Evans responded for Llanrhaeadr after the break.

Carno, in third spot, stepped up their challenge with a 2-0 win at Llandrindod Wells. Jordan Jones netted after three minutes and Richie Evans on the hour for Carno who limited the Spa side to few chances all night.

Llanidloes Town moved up three places with a 3-1 verdict over bottom of the table, Montgomery Town. Rhys Evans scored twice and Gareth Owen was also on target for The Daffs as Montgomery finished the night with 10 men following a red card.
