A PRIMARY school in Ystradgynlais had a visit from the Premier League Trophy along with guests from Swansea City football club on Tuesday.

Ysgol Bro Tawe hosted celebrations during the day including a whole school assembly, which was attended by coaches from Swansea City as well as club mascot Cyril the Swan.

The excited pupils engaged in a variety of sporting and educational activities throughout the day with their guests.

Ysgol Bro Tawe was selected randomly for the reward after being nominated for the new Premier League Primary Stars Programme by parent Angela Moss. Karen Hyett, a teacher at the school, also nominated the school through the programme. The school was encouraged to be a part of the programme, which is a free resource for teachers across England and Wales, after it was nominated.

Headteacher Bethan Evans said: “It was a privilege and an honour to welcome the Premier League Trophy to Ysgol Bro Tawe this morning. The children had a wonderful time and the actives they undertook with the Swansea City coaches inspired them and instilled a sense of fair play and resilience in them.”

The programme uses the appeal of one of the most competitive football tournaments, which is viewed in one billion households across the world, along with professional football clubs to inspire children to learn, be active and develop important life skills.

Premier League Primary Stars, which is available to every primary school in England and Wales, helps to inspire children in the classroom, the playground and on the sports field. The programme also helps to organise events like the Premier League Schools Tournament and offers, like the Premier League Primary Stars Kit and Equipment Scheme, which has helped schools to apply for Nike strips for their school football team and special equipment packs.

A Premier League spokesperson said: “This prize-giving is the culmination of the national campaign, which encouraged teachers and parents to sign-up for the free online curriculum-linked resources, which has so far seen more than 9,000 parent nominations for over 5,000 schools.”
