TWO local sides are in JD Welsh Cup action this weekend as the journey to win one of football’s oldest competitions begins.
Round One of the competition, won last season by Welsh Premier champions TNS, takes place this weekend with Hay St Mary’s and Rhayader Town both in action.
Hay face a long journey to fellow Mid Wales League Division 1 side Montgomery Town while Division 2 Rhayader Town are home to Division One Bow Street.
In midweek action in the Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South) Llandrindod Reserves last night defeated St Harmon, 3-2, at home while Rhayader Town Reserves lost 3-0 at Llanidloes Reserves.
Leaders Brecon Corries continued their impressive start to life in Mid Wales League (South) defeating last season’s championS Talgarth Town 7-1 at the Rich Field on Tuesday evening. The visitors goal was the first the Corries have conceded in four matches this season.
Also in the southern league on Tuesday Presteigne Reserves got their first win of the season when they defeated Felindre 5-2.
