PRESTEIGNE rider Franky Reid-Warrilow is hoping her latest eye-catching performance on the three-day eventing circuit will be enough to secure her selection for next year’s World Equestrian Games in the United States.
Franky and her top mare Dolley Whisper were flying recently as part of Britain’s Nations Cup silver-medal winning team in Waregem, Belgium.
Following a foot-perfect dressage test, which split the judges, Franky and Dolley had an unlucky four faults in the show jumping leaving them lying in seventh going into the cross-country phase.
No strangers to riding under pressure, the combination flew around a difficult track to earn sixth place overall and the spot of top British horse and rider.
It pushed GB on to the second step on the podium in a strong international field of 92.
This fantastic display was the most recent of a string of positive results for Franky and Dolley, who so far this season have achieved top-12 placings at some of the most illustrious international events on the circuit, including Hartpury Horse Trials and the Event Rider Masters at Blair Castle, Bramham and Belton.
Making her achievements all the greater, Franky has done all this off the back of a serious injury following a fall from a youngster at Barbury International, which put her out of action for six weeks with a broken collarbone.
The FRW Eventing team are now waiting to see if they have grasped the selectors’ attention ahead of next year’s World Equestrian Games. The event in Tryon, North Carolina, is the most prestigious event in the 2018 equine calendar and a significant stepping stone for riders hoping to compete at the Olympics in Tokyo in 2020.
The 27-year-old Welsh rider, from Lower Dolley Farm, Dolly Green, said: “It is always such an honour to ride for my country, and coming away as best placed Brit is a fantastic feeling. I’m having an amazing time riding this wave but fingers crossed the best is yet to come! Huge thanks to the Lottery funded UK Sport.”
To make her dream of Olympics selection even more of a possibility, Franky is continuing her search for horses with truly golden potential.
This is an expensive undertaking and to help her, Franky is offering the opportunity for sponsors to join her on her journey by taking up part-ownership of a horse that can reach the Olympics standard.
An owner or part-owner of a horse at Lower Dolley can become part of the Olympic journey by visiting their horse anytime they like (subject to 24 hours notice) and watching some of Franky’s training sessions as well as accompanying her and the team to any of Franky’s events.
A sole owner will have total financial responsibility for their horse, although Franky is always there to advise, while a part-owner will see the financial responsibility - and reward - split with the other owners.
