BEULAH Show has a reputation for inclement weather and despite this year being the driest on record, the weather again produced quite damp conditions. However the racing on Saturday, September 8 was bright enough and provided good entertainment to close the show.

C U Salou the youngster owned trained and driven by Ollie Preece from Orleton produced a good run to win from Pegasus Dream with owner Michelle Meaney from Merthyr on board while Talavary Crown (Greenway, Michaelchurch Eskley) was third.

The Chancer (Hitchcock & Jones, Haverfordwest) ran a good race in the first Novice heat for Debbie Hitchcock, winning from Beg for Mercy (Tromans, Newcastle Emlyn) while the likeable Danny Blue (Peters, Upper Longwood) was close behind in third. In the second Novice heat the long striding Dernol Yankee (Wozencraft, Llangurig) with trainer Andrew Hardwick doing the steering came home convincingly in front of the well fancied Ook whos coming (Evans, Brecon) while new recruit C U Maggie (Bevan, Llanddewi) was third.

The well mannered Habberley Haste (Lloyd, New Radnor) with trainer Andrew Hardwick in the seat took the first heat of the Grade B in fine style with the back marker Lakeside Meg (Atherton-Rees) in second and local horse Immortal Breeze (Williams, Llanafan) just claiming third. Enter the Dragon ran ferociously for the Harrison/Langford Onibury partnership with Mel Langford at the controls beating the reliable Ayr Ontario (Weigel, Llanddewi Velfrey) and Ayr Major (Eggerton, Builth Wells).

There was only one race in the Grade A this week and Woodstone Jingo (Meaney, Merthyr) was in classic form under the guidance of Andrew Hardwick leading from the gate and despite the efforts of others and the pouring rain they prevailed, while Second Affair (Thomas, Rhymney) claimed second prize and Chinatown Kolt (Jones, Llanllwni) ran on well to be third.

In the Baby Novice the somewhat variable Luminite with owner Linda Atherton-Rees from Narberth at the controls claimed the win from long time leader Hyar Friction (Thomas, Tregroes) while Hilltop Recon (Lloyd, New Radnor) was third.

The Novice final was won comfortably by the impressive Dernol Yankee (Wozencraft, Llangurig) as he surged up the home straight driven as usual by trainer Andrew Hardwick with Ook whos coming (Evans, Brecon) in second while Danny Blue (Peters Upper Longwood) was only inches away in third.

It was the genuine Habberley Haste (Lloyd, New Radnor) who made the most of pole position to lead from the start to win comfortably and complete trainer Andrew Hardwick’s day of success with another win giving him five wins in total (Novice heat & final, Grade B heat & final and Grade A) while Enter the Dragon (Harrison, Onibury) was second and Lakeside Meg (Atherton-Rees, Narberth) was third.

So after an evening of drizzle which failed to dampen the spirit of racing we move back to Almeley for the joint meeting with the Wales & West association Saturday September 15th starting at 1pm.
