THIS year’s Harry Flatters Rally, sponsored by The Stephens and George Print Group, provides a unique opportunity to see top-flight rally drivers compete on the Epynt Ranges.

Organised by Brecon Motor Club, the event is a firm favourite in the Welsh motor sport calendar, attracting strong competitors from across Britain and from as far away as Belgium.

The ‘Flatters’ is round five of the 2016 Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship, a highly competitive and hard fought national rally series.

Local competitors expected to excel include Jason Pritchard from Builth Wells, driving his well-sorted Ford Escort RS1800, who is well favoured as the overall winner. His father, Eian Pritchard, also competing in a Ford Escort RS1800, is also looking to uphold family honour.

Running in the national rally modern classes, Christian Prynne and his co-driver Raymond ’Trigger’ Davies, both from Builth Wells, will be campaigning their Peugeot 205GTi. Currently lying fifth overall in the 2016 Hirefit King of Epynt Challenge, they will be aiming to improve their standing in this annual contest with an inspired run.

Phil Jones, a builder by trade from Groesffordd, has constructed and prepared a Mini especially to compete in this year’s Harry Flatters. Co-driver is Joe Elliott from Llangorse.

Spectators are welcome to the event but are warned that motor sport can be dangerous. Two excellent spectator points have been established on each of the five special stages. Access to the spectator areas is from Llywel, just off the A40 about a mile west of Trecastle with an alternative route via Tirabad.

Parking will be organised by the Llandovery Rotary Club with a programme included in the £10 per car parking fee.

Further spectator information can be accessed through the documents section of the Harry Flatters Rally page on the Brecon Motor Club website www.breconmotorclub.co.uk

Rally action starts at 8.45am on Sunday July 31.
