Wales Women have finished in ninth place overall in the Commonwealth Games hockey tournament after a shoot-out win over Ghana.
The teams, who finished bottom of their pools, played out a 1-1 draw in regulation time and the shoot out was needed to settle the battle for ninth place.
Wales won the shoot-out after scoring with two of their three attempts on goal while Ghana failed to score.
Sian French and Sarah Jones scored for Wales in shoot-out.
The west African nation, the only team ranked below Wales in the tournament, had gone ahead with a third quarter goal from Serwaa Boakye.
But Tina Evans pulled one back for Wales, from a penalty corner, with eight minutes left to play.
A frantic final two minutes saw Sophie Clayton miss a shot at goal, Sarah Jones had an effort on goal saved and with just 10 seconds left to play Knighton’s Phoebe Richards unleashed a shot on the Ghana goal but missed.
Brecon’s Delyth Thomas was again used from the bench by Wales.
Wales matched their Commonwealth Games placing from 2014 in finishing 9th but will likely consider the Gold Coast an improved effort after registering a win over world number 10 India and playing competitively against England who are ranked second in the world.
