Builth Wells & District Running Club hosted the Herefordshire Cross Country series race at Fforest Fields between Hundred House and Builth Wells.

In a total field of more than 150 runners competed in the race on Sunday, February 3 despite the very cold conditions with snow and ice still covering the course.

Builth & District athlete Tim Iveson made the most of the home advantage to capture the senior men’s race in 40 minutes and 41 seconds to give him a 14 second victory over Joseph Murray from Newton’s Maldwyn Harriers. Jonny Pugh, of Builth & District RC, took third in 41.50 while the club’s Mike Pfeiffer won the male veterans 50 category in 42.20 which was also good enough for fourth place overall.

The women’s race was won by Amy Fulford, a 40+ veteran, of Ludlow Runners in 49.21.

Holly Gourley, of Ledbury & District Harries, a 35+ vet, took second in 50.23 and Ludlow Runners’ Alice Godding came in third in 50.34.

The highest placed local runner in the Women’s race was fourth placed Jo Rees. The Rhayader Running Club 40+ veteran completed the course in 50.35.

The event was also used by Builth & District member Anita Thomas to boost her fundraising efforts for the Prostrate Cancer charity.

She will run in this year’s London Marathon in aid of the charity and at the cross country event members of her family raised £235 towards the cause by selling teas, coffees and cakes to runners and supporters.

Builth Wells & District Running Club has thanked the Barstow family of Fforest Fields for permission to use the course and their hospitality.
