Todd Kellett took victory at the second round of the RESS – Rhayader Enduro Super Series, the King of the Hill Hare and Hound at Cwmythig Hill.
The Yamaha rider got off to a steady start on Sunday, April 28 but found his feet a few laps in and once the grass tore off and some bumps and ruts began to appear, he was back into his natural habitat.
The early leader was Harry Edmondson who took the holeshot, but he hit the deck on lap one and gave the lead to Alex Snow, followed by young gun Henry Yardley. When the chequered flag fell it was Kellett who took the overall victory, followed by Snow and Yardley aboard the 125. He did very well to hold his own on the small bike and rode a great race to achieve his first Championship class podium.
In the ever unpredictable Expert category it was KTM 125 rider Max Ditchfield who topped the results sheet, followed by Ben Murphy and a great ride from Dean Edwards to secure third place on the podium.
The Clubman Class was won by Martin Williams who took a good victory from Liam Ryland in P2, and in third place was Richard Jones. Within the Clubman Class there is a separate Under 19’s class which is great for bringing younger riders into the Enduro scene. This award was won by Matthew Harries who impressed a lot of people. Second place was current BEC Clubman leader James Palmer, and in third was Kris Price from Llandrindod.
Tim Forman was in commanding form and was rewarded with a class victory in the Over 40’s category. The next best Over 40 was William Jones, and the final podium position went to Anthony Griffith.
In the Over 50’s Colin Griffiths was first across the line, followed home by Philip George and in third, Carl Davies.
Zoe Zemruszki took top honours in the ladies category, showing grit and determination along the way.
In the Sportsman A class it was young hotshot Jack Probert who took the win followed by another local legend Aaron Bates who made his return to racing today. Pete Bailey was third in this class.
In Sportsman B it was Leigh Nicelin who stood on the top step after the 2.5 hours, and one step lower was Jake Lewis. The final (and easiest step to mount) was taken by Thomas Woodward.
]The Rhayader has thanked everyone for their continued support in this all new RESS series, and they would also like to show their appreciation for all of their series sponsors and especially to this particular event’s main sponsor, Midshires Catering Equipment.
Round 3, the Evening Moto Duro takes place on Saturday June 12.
