A BRECON girl has fought her way to victory after winning four world titles at the World Martial Arts Games in Switzerland at the end of September.
Ellie Cain, 10, has now won the Under-14s gold in seven categories for kickboxing and karate over her fighting career following her four wins in Arbon on Saturday, September 30. Ellie got the gold medal for the Under-14s ‘Points’ category in the 40kg weight group; the Under-14s ‘Continuous’ category in the 45kg weight group; the Under-14s ‘Low Kick’ category in the 40kg weight group; and the ‘Kumite’ category in the 45kg weight group.
Ellie, who trains with Devil Martial Arts in Oakdale, said: “I’d like to be MMA one day, and I’d also like to go the Olympics. I have a lot of favourite fighters. I really like Holly Holmes who does UFC and boxing, and also Ronda Rousey from UFC.
“I also like Lauren Price, who’s a boxer, and I like Lauren Williams who does taekwando.”
Ellie’s mum, Kate, explained that kumite is similar to karate. She also said that Ellie was entered while she was already in Switzerland and won despite having never done it before. Proud Kate said: “She was ecstatic to be honest, she was over the moon and did not stop smiling for the whole weekend.”
The Ysgol Y Bannau student, who lives with her parents and brother, has been training for five years in kickboxing and karate.
She trains two to three times with a mix of running, pad work, and sparring – fighting without landing heavy blows to assist training.
