Brecon Rugby Club has announced that Dale ‘The Chief’ McIntosh will take on the role of Director of Rugby at the club this summer.

McIntosh is set to step down from his coaching job at Merthyr FC and will join up with his new club on July 1.

The news, which was announced last week, represents an exciting appointment for the National League Division 1 East club. McIntosh, who played more than 450 times for Pontypridd and twice for the Welsh national team. has gone on to forge a flourishing coaching career in his post-playing years, most recently enjoying a successful seven-year spell with Merthyr RFC.

He will be joined at the Brecon club by long-time coaching assistant Gavin Dacey.

A statement released by Brecon RFC reads: We are delighted to announce that as of the 1st of July we will be employing the services of Dale McIntosh as our new Director of Rugby.

“He will be joined by Gavin Dacey, Matthew Lewis and Wayne Morris as our senior team coaches.

“Dale will be coaching the senior team squad, have an active role with the youth coaching set up and will also provide an input to the running of the mini and junior sections.

“It is our intention and that of Dale to keep a team largely built around Brecon based players, with a desire that we always continue to provide the opportunity for local players to play at the highest level possible with the match day squad consistently reflecting that ambition.

“We have negotiated a new sponsorship deal with Sunnybarn investments and along with all our other sponsors we are very grateful for their support.”
