Presteigne St Andrews came from behind to make it back-to-back wins for the first time this season with a 4-2 victory at Penybont United. Corey Blythin-Williams cut in from the left to fire Presteigne ahead but Penybont turned it around. Rhys Davies levelled from Alfie Stonefield’s through ball and Paul McCambridge saw The Polecats ahead from a free-kick by Jack Duggan who now has more assists than anyone else in the league.
A ten minute spell in the second half which produced three goals turned the game in Presteigne’s favour as they stepped up a gear. Sam Roberts latched on to a through ball to tie the scores and Sezar Cakmak put Presteigne in front from the penalty spot following a foul on Roberts. And topscorer, Cakmak sealed the points bagging his second of the game from a tight angle.
Elsewhere it was quarter-final day in the Pip Samuel (Electrical) Mid Wales (South) League Cup and Brecon FC, Hay St Marys, Rhayader Town Development and Talgarth Town are through to the last four.
Hay St Marys kept their hopes of a League and Cup double on track with a narrow 2-1 victory at Builth Wells Reserves. Ricky Lynes put The Saints ahead from a questionable penalty and Tam Emmett headed a second from Jack Cook’s cross before half-time. Kai Bridgeman deservedly pulled one back for Builth who went all out for an equaliser but Hay ‘keeper, Tom Lewis and his defence stood firm.
Talgarth Town and Knighton Town Reserves met for the second time in eight days and it was Talgarth who again came out on top. The Royals edged a 2-1 verdict with Tom Sharman-Jones popping up with what turned out to be the winner seven minutes into the second half. Cain Martin had given Knighton an early lead when his effort took a wicked deflection off Talgarth defender, Guy Williams. Kyle O’Shea had Talgarth on terms by half-time when Rhodri Inseal pulled the ball back to him and Sharman-Jones netted the decisive goal with O’Shea turning goalscorer to provider.
Brecon FC progressed with scheduled opponents, Llandrindod Wells Reserves unable to raise a team while Rhayader Development were 3-2 winners at Hay Development in another closely fought tie. Reuben Smith opened the scoring for Hay but Sion Herman and Tom Groves hit back for Rhayader. Smith grabbed his second to make it all square at the break before player-manager, Liam Addison got off the substitute’s bench to win it for The Red Kites.
