CHILDREN at Clyro Church in Wales Primary School have been given the option of experiencing judo in their games lessons.

Supplementary to their current PE curriculum, the whole school have been given the opportunity of working with Richard Jones, from Irfon Valley Judo Club, and have had judo lessons every week for the past term.

After being put in touch with Richard, Miss Sinead Griffiths, the PE co-ordinator at Clyro School, managed to organise a term’s worth of lessons for the children and parents only had to pay £2 for the whole term, which has been used to subsidise the cost of buying new gym mats for the school.

Miss Griffiths said: “For the past six weeks every class, from the youngest children in Reception all the way through to Year 6, have had weekly lessons with Richard and the children have embraced this fully.

“The children have absolutely loved the sessions and the school are now looking into ways of offering this in the future.”
