ON Saturday, November 17, Llanwrtyd Wells welcomed almost 500 mountain bike riders to take part in the Real Ale Wobble, hosted by Green Events Ltd.

This year was the 33rd year of the Real Ale Wobble which kick-starts the 10-day Mid Wales Beer Festival.

The Wobble is a non-competitive mountain bike event taking in our amazing countryside which was certainly shown in all its glory in the Saturday sunshine.  The course was designed by Cycle-Tec of Builth Wells and consisted of a 23km route with an additional 12km for the more adventurous.

Along the way riders stopped at two feed stations to sample real ales and enjoy some nibbles!  There was also a coffee pod and barbecue out on the course.

Once back at the finish in the Bromsgrove Hall, everyone enjoyed refreshments provided by Friends of Ysgol Dolafon, the local primary school, and purchased merchandise from Can’t Quit Cartel and Big Bobble Hats.  The Real Ale Wobble is a real community event with a large donation going to Ysgol Dolafon for providing marshals on the course, packed lunches for the marshals and organisation of the event.  The event was a great success and we are already planning some new and exciting elements to add to the 34th Real Ale Wobble. Our plan is to include an extreme version for the more adventurous riders.

If mountain biking isn’t your thing, then come along this weekend (November 24 and 25) to take part in the Real Ale Ramble walks - 2 waymarked routes of 12 or 20 miles or two guided routes of 5 and 8 miles with free real ales available at the checkpoints!
