BRECON’S Rob Davies was among Britain’s gold medal winners at the ITTF World Para Elite Yvelines table tennis tournament in France late last month

Competing in men’s class one, Rob opened with a 3-1 win over former European team silver medallist, Alan Papirer from France.

He then recovered from losing the first set to beat Paralympic bronze medallist and world No 5, Federico Falco from Italy, 3-1.

Rob then beat Sylvio Keller, a former European bronze medallist from Switzerland, 3-0.

He then recovered from losing the first set to beat Dmitrii Lavrov, a former two-time European bronze medallist from Russia , 3-1.

In the final, Rob lost the first set to Timo Natunen, but fought back to take the second 12-10 and went on to take the third and fourth sets 11-9 to beat the world No 7 from Finland 3-1.

Rob, 41, has played table tennis competitively since 2007 and has won medals around the world, including at Paralympics and European Championships.

In 2017, he was awarded in MBE in recognition of his services to table tennis.

The ITTF World Para Elite Yvelines 2025 delivered some spectacular competition in Voisins-le-Bretonneux, with two days of intense action producing memorable moments and setting up compelling knockout stage battles.

As the final Elite event of the inaugural revamped circuit the French venue witnessed world number ones asserting dominance, home favourites thrilling local crowds, and several stunning upsets that reshaped the tournament landscape.
